    2015 Pinot Noir, Hamilton Russell

    £5900

Hamilton Russell Vineyards, one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa and one of the closest to the sea – is located in the beautiful, cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation.  The Estate specialises in producing highly individual, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as the best in South Africa and among the best in the New World.

‘Continuing the subtle changes that have occurred under Emul Ross, the Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir is now a worthy stablemate for the estate’s Chardonnay. This shows the acidity of the 2017 vintage, with a fine perfume of wild strawberry and dried mushroom, subtle wood and a dense, complex, savoury finish’. 95pts  Tim Atkin

    2014 Schist Syrah ‘Roundstone’, Mullineux

    £7500
Grapes for our 2014 Schist Syrah were from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 18 years old vines planted in the stony Shale and Schist soils of our farm on the Kasteelberg. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the Kasteelberg’s terroir – density and structure.  This is the most structured Syrah in our Single Terroir range. On the nose, there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple. Ageing potential 10 – 15 years.

Limited production of 2724 bottles & 150 magnums.

Sourced from a single parcel in the western part of Elgin, the 22 clone produces fuller, well-coloured yet finely structured wines. They tend to be more concentrated as yields are low with more black fruit, black pepper and meaty notes.
