2020 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux Superior
£1495Add to BasketChâteau Bellecroix has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800s. It was purchased in the 1970s by the owner of Château Haut Calens, Albert Yung. Albert has since embarked upon a programme of modernising the entire estate, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the winery and cellars. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the clay and gravel soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet. The 35 acres of vines average 25 years of age and yield healthy, richly flavoured grapes. This wine from the superb 2020 vintage is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a silky-textured, medium-bodied Bordeaux with blackcurrants, black cherry, violets and a hint of cedar box. Finely balanced by lively acidity and smooth tannins.

2020 Chateau Mayne Mazerolles

The Château is located in the town of Cars, in the appellation of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard is made up of south-facing plots on a plateau with clay-limestone soils and a terroir known locally as “gruppes”, which is formed of small, white pebbles. The vineyard is cultivated according to traditional and sustainable viticulture practices, with an emphasis on respecting the soil, the environment and the vine. The soil under the vines is scattered with oats or barley to produce a green manure; insecticides are not used. The vineyard is in conversion to organic.

2019 ‘Bull Ant’ Cabernet Merlot, Lake Breeze

The grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. It has an amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. The ageing in oak for 15 months has enhanced the mouth-feel of this wine, which is rich and smooth and offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins.
Best consumed over the next 3-4 years and will drink even more dangerously paired with roast lamb. -

This entryway is depicted on the label with the winding road, lined by Cyprus trees leading up to the 12th Century Castello.
In the glass it is a bright red colour with mauve highlights. The nose is fresh, sweet and fruity with aromas of blackberry and ripe cherry that are accompanied by delicate spicy notes of cocoa, tobacco and liquorice. An elegant, balanced wine with a full, round structure balanced by great softness, enveloping, with a long lingering finish.

2017 The Galvo Garage Cabernet Blend, d’Arenberg

The colour is quite rich, almost dark, suggesting a fuller-bodied flavour profile. The palate is elegant, yet sings with ripe fruits, and is extremely juicy with deep richness and structure. This mix of pure fruit combines with fine oak tannins that lead to a lovely fragrant dark chocolate, minerally dry finish.
‘Garage wines’ is a term used to describe wines that are produced in the back sheds of French winemakers, who make small batch wines of the highest quality. Our galvanized, corrugated ‘garage’ was built in 1927 and still houses the traditional equipment used in the handcrafting of this wine.

2016 Chateau Lucas
£2200Add to BasketThe area of Lussac is an up and coming satellite appellation of the renowned Saint Emilion region on the the Right Bank of Bordeaux. There is no doubt that one of Lussac’s most prized properties is Château Lucas, owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone fame. From just 18 hectares of vines, three cuvée are produced. The top wine, aptly called Château Lucas, is produced from a 12-hectare vineyard, comprising equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. While so much of the Right Bank focuses on Merlot, the high percentage of Cabernet Franc brings a polished lift to the cuvée, vintage in and vintage out.
In the glass it opens with aromatics of raspberry and blackcurrant interlaced with plum and vanilla notes. The palate is round and balanced with flavours of earthy spices, tobacco and blackcurrants that lead into a sustained finish.

In the glass it has a beautiful deep colour with youthful tints, the aromas open with juicy berry fruits and subtle spices. The palate is juicy and fruit driven with fine long tannins. All in all a great glass of wine and although it is made as a drink-now style, it always benefits from a few extra years in bottle.
