  • 2020 Aconcagua Pinot Noir, Montes AlphaRed Wine

2020 Aconcagua Pinot Noir, Montes Alpha

    £1475

A soft, silky Chilean Pinot Noir with aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries, white pepper and a touch of rose and violet. Medium-bodied, the palate has silky, smooth tannins, fresh and vibrant acidity, and shows well-integrated French oak. The long and perfumed finish is smooth and elegant.

The Pinot Noir vineyards are planted on gently rolling hills with different aspects and are trained to vertical shoot position. The sites are irrigated via a ‘Sustainable Dry Farmed’ system, developed by Aurelio and his team, which allows for extremely precise and minimal irrigating, reducing their water footprint by 65%. The vines only require minimal work with the canopy, which enables the growers to obtain healthy grapes with good balance at harvest time. Yields vary between 7,000 and 8,000 kilograms per hectare. The proximity of the vineyards to the Pacific coast endows the wine with tremendous freshness, minerality, and cool climate typicity. The granitic soils of the Coastal Mountains have varying percentages of clay, which contributes elegance, creaminess and a unique sense of place.

  • 2022 Sibaris Pinot Noir, UndurragaRed Wine

    2022 Sibaris Pinot Noir, Undurraga

    £1550

An elegant wine bursting with fruity notes of Morello cherry and strawberry, layered with nuances of fresh herbs. Juicy pomegranate, strawberry and cherry notes envelop a smooth palate with gentle tannins, finely integrated oak and a deliciously long finish.

The grapes are grown in the Lomas de Leyda vineyard, situated in the Leyda Valley. The Pacific Ocean has a significant influence; the vineyard is just 13 kilometres in a direct line from the sea. During the ripening period the mornings are damp and windy, while the afternoons and evenings are cooled by the sea breezes resulting in moderate maximum temperatures. This helps to ensure the slow and gradual ripening of the grapes, encouraging the aromas and flavours in the fruit balanced by natural refreshing acidity.

  • 2017 Pinot Noir, Ernst Gouws & CoRed Wine

2017 Pinot Noir, Ernst Gouws & Co

    £1700

Ernst Gouws, the jovial patriarch of the Gouws family and winemaker extraordinaire, firmly believes in the French philosophy that the quality of the wine is inextricably linked to the origin of the vineyards and its terroir. Grapes are therefore hand-harvested from site-specific vineyards around the town of Stellenbosch, which is world-famous for producing quality, fruit-driven wines.

The grapes for this 2017 Pinot Noir are grown on the West Coast, just three miles from the sea, where the vineyard overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The revitalising sea-breezes create balancing freshness in the grapes, which is showcased in this beautifully composed Pinot Noir.

The translucent ruby colour of this wine is typical of the variety. Subtle aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries and tilled earth combine with a hint of baking spice. The palate is elegant, with a delicate and silky tannin structure.  The wine is beautifully balanced with lingering flavours of tobacco and wild mushrooms on the finish.

The delicate nature of this wine is a perfect match for smoked trout or salmon. It will also pair well with charcuterie, ham and other cold meats served with patés and terrines.

  • 2019 Pinot Noir, Old StageRed Wine

    2019 Pinot Noir, Old Stage

    £1950

A balanced and graceful Pinot Noir with aromas of strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb and a touch of sage. Beautifully integrated oak supports the pure fruit through to a silky finish.

The fruit comes from two distinct Pinot Noir vineyards: Danny’s Vineyard and Grava, two of the most northerly plantings in Monterey County. The vineyards nestle up to the Gabilan Mountain Range on the eastern side of the Salinas Valley; approximately 10 miles directly across from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The marine influence of the nearby Monterey Bay and the morning fog which clears for the afternoon sun, results in a cool mesoclimate and a long hang-time for the fruit. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.
