The aromas are powerful and complex encapsulating a wealth of ripe black cherries, blackberries with subtle hints of white pepper and spice. The rich and harmonious palate delivers soft flavours of plum and cherry notes, underpinned by toasty oak and velvety chocolate. Silky tannins lead to a long, persistent finish.
Red WineThe Butcher’s Cart harks back to a time when the Lindner family, founders of the great St Hallett’s estate, were family butchers and horse and cart was the norm to get about. Much has changed in the Barossa since then, but there is the same meticulous care now performed in the jewel-like vineyards and immaculate cellar. This fabulous dark, spicy Shiraz uses grapes from a selection of vineyards, all planted on the red-brown earth, which tends to produce a rich, generous wine. Each parcel is fermented separately, with a pump over six times a day to extract rich flavour and tannins. Ageing for 10 months in 20% new oak puts the finishing touches to this rich, unctuous red.
Aroma: Dark ripe blackberry and raspberry, with liquorice and nutmeg spice

Red WineTahbilk Shiraz is sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Made using traditional Tahbilk techniques; fermentation takes place in 150 + year old open vats, before maturation in French and American oak for 18 months before bottling. The resultant releases are noted as being fruit-driven wines of much flavour and substance, proven over the years to develop added character when cellared. Varietally expressive with ample plum and blackberry fruits, there is warm earth and spicy savouriness that immediately appeals with a backbone of fine, opulent tannins and a rich, persistent finish.
Tahbilk’s vineyards are grouped along the banks of the Goulburn River, a branch of it which flows through the estate. The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which vary from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.
Red WineLet it be known that Kym Teusner once said to his peers that Barossa Shiraz could be a bit boring. Fairly independent thinking coming from a Barossa winemaker. Defending himself, Kym will insist what he did say was that as good as Barossa Shiraz is, adding Mataro will make it taste even better!
This wine is jam-packed with Barossa Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvedre) flavours….plums, black fruits and warm spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and 5 spices. There’s a touch of mid-palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid-palate. The subtle use of oak allows the rich dark fruit to take centre stage.
Red WineThis 2016 Shiraz/Viognier has a rather dark appearance with a vivid purple hue suggesting a complex dry red. The nose is particularly intense, with peppery spice, hints of fragrant flower and perfume aromas, plus nectarines, apricots, ginger and herbs from the small parcel of viognier that the Shiraz is co-fermented with. On the palate, the Shiraz is more dominant with sweeter fruit characters like blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry. The palate is rich and generous and soft silky tannins.
The Kookaburra is a native Australian bird famous for its distinctive laughing call, Chester’s young daughters named them “Laughing Magpies”. The Magpie plumage is black with a stripe of white feathers, representing McLaren Vale’s first ever blend combining the (black) Shiraz and its white partner, Viognier.

This wine is made from old vine fruit, which comes from the Wenzel Road ‘Saint Oaks’ vineyard, located in Balhannah, in the Adelaide Hills. It sits at 374 metres above sea level and at this elevation, the nights are cool with a constant breeze. The average daily maximum temperature is 22.9°C with a minimum temperature of 9.2°C minimum. This diurnal temperature variation encourages a gradual ripening process, resulting in concentrated fruit flavours with a lovely balancing acidity.

Red WineThis is a savoury medium-bodied Adelaide Hills Shiraz. In the glass, it has a dark red-black colour with a dark red hue. Aromas of liquorice and dark cherries are overlaid by some smoky cedar and dried meats with light pepper end notes. Medium-bodied flavours of dark cherries and liquorice are infused with subtle clove followed by some dried meats and spicy pepper. Fine-grained tannins with an aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, liquorice, clove infusions, dried meats and pepper. Aged in French oak barriques and hogsheads for 17 months.
Red WineThe Riebke Shiraz is dedicated to the Riebke Brothers who have vineyards located in the Northern Barossa sub-districts of Ebenezer, Moppa and Kalimna. Their family has been tending these vines for 5 generations. The brothers owned an old vine Grenache vineyard and were selling the fruit to some of the industry’s big boys, however, the low yields and low prices being paid meant that the brothers were running the vineyard at a loss. In stepped winemaker, Kym Teusner, who together with his business partner, managed to scrape up enough cash to purchase about a quarter of the fruit – enough to stave off the brother’s plans of scrapping the vineyard. Since that day the Riebekes have become an integral supplier and Teusner gracefully acknowledges that the quality of this wine is really due to the brother’s viticultural talent, adding ‘Those guys have some of the best-kept vineyards in the Ebenezer district’.
In the glass it has a very deep midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Unfurling from the glass are spicy dark plum and liquorice scents which meld into toasty vanillin cedar and peppered earth notes. Generous and juicy the medium to full bodied palate features ripe dark plum and liquorice fruits over spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth and pepper characters. Polished tannins with a fleshy aftertaste that has plenty of pepper and spice to it.
Red WineThis is the 14th cuvee of this Californian version of a high-class Cotes du Rhone made by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW. Bedrock has been making stunning small-production wines from some of California’s oldest vineyards since 2007, so some seriously old vine fruit ends up in this blend. Shebang! is a blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah and Barbera fermented with native yeasts and aged in primarily neutral barrels (15% in new French oak). Each grape variety is vinified separately and added to a multi-vintage Solera. Each year he tops it up with new wines after drawing off the wine to be bottled.
Red WineAromas of red earth, ground black spice and dark berries lead to a palate of fine, silky tannins. Juicy fruit flavours of blueberry and dark cherry combine with undertones of spice.
The fruit was selected and hand-picked from sites across Frankland River, Western Australia. The vines were planted in 1997 to a density of 1,650 vines per hectare and have a northern orientation, which maximises the exposure to the sun. Careful irrigation ensures the vines are healthy. The soils are granite, which are known for their heat retention properties and for promoting the even ripening of the berries.
Red WineJoshua is the wine that started Teusner as a wine producer. Kym Teusner and his business partner Mick Page were in a pub sipping a few beers. They overheard a couple of old growers having a conversation about the low, low prices being paid for their old vine Grenache…to the point they were going to rip out the vines and plant Chardonnay! Horrified they hatched a rescue plan, scrambling together some cash, the grapes found a new home and the vines stayed in the ground where they belonged and Teusner Wines was born.
Named after Mick’s first son, Joshua is a blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. Made from 100-year-old vines it has a delicious mix of light and dark fresh ripe berried fruits, cured meats and lifted spice on the nose that sets you up for a mouthful of savoury and gamey flavour in the mouth. Kept away from oak and released young it showcases the juicy, spicy, flavoursome red wines of the Barossa.
Red WineThis 2017 Shiraz comes from a single-vineyard sourced from the Florita vineyard in Watervale. The Shiraz block is planted on a gentle northwest facing slope that takes full advantage of Clare Valley climate.
It is an opulent wine with expressive aromas of rich, bright red fruits that are supported by classic Clare Valley spice. Beautifully structured with fine savoury tannins and terrific length of vibrant fruit on the palate. This is not your typical Clare Valley Shiraz! The opulent nature of the wine could be due to winemaking that saw one-third of the grapes being co-fermented with 15% of whole bunch fruit to impart complexity and an aromatic lift to the wine. The wine then went through malolactic fermentation (a process where tart malic acid in wine converts to softer, creamier lactic acid) before being transferred to oak barrels for 12 months of ageing.

Red WineThis is classic medium-full bodied Shiraz from the Rock of Wisdom duo, Pete and Sofi. Built for drinking now, this has the unfettered ‘lo-fi’ feeling of a Shiraz made without much tinkering. A vibrant juicy number with red and blue fruits jumping out the glass, soft gentle tannins and minimal time in old French oak delivers the fun times within. The fruit is sourced from a famous block on the edge Koonunga that is renowned for its red dirt over clay soils.

The 2019 Cricket Pitch Red is a multi-regional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz sourced from premium regions including Beechworth, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra.
In the glass it has a beautiful deep colour with youthful tints, the aromas open with juicy berry fruits and subtle spices. The palate is juicy and fruit driven with fine long tannins. All in all a great glass of wine and although it is made as a drink-now style, it always benefits from a few extra years in bottle.
