The vines yield 110 quintals per hectare and are grown in soils made up of limestone and gravel with pebbles, which impart elegance and provide excellent drainage for the vines.  Each variety was vinified separately. The grapes were fermented on their skins for a period of seven to 10 days, releasing the flavours and extracting the colour during the process. The wine was blended and then matured in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the integrity of the primary aromas and varietal characteristics of the blend.

  • 2021 Valpolicella Ripasso, Campo Bastiglia, Ca’RugateRed Wine

2021 Valpolicella Ripasso, Campo Bastiglia, Ca’Rugate

    £2395

Ca’Rugate is one of Veneto’s top wineries producing some of Veneto’s best and most exciting wines and this is one!   In the glass, it is uber concentrated with aromas of red fruit cherries with a hint of spice and floral notes. Full-bodied palate with soft tannins, an elegant silky texture and a velvety finish.

This wine is named after Campo Bastiglia, where Ca’Rugate’s vineyard is located, nestled in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara. The fruit is sourced from a selection of the best grapes.  Vinified from a combination of dried and undried grapes. The undried grapes were destemmed and fermented immediately after the harvest. The dried grapes were allowed to dry gently in well-ventilated rooms for approximately four to five months, concentrating the flavours, sweetness and colour. The dried grapes were added later; they were fermented in stainless steel for one week, prior to being pressed. The wine was then transferred to small barrels to finish fermentation. It was then matured in wood for eight to 10 months.

  • 2015 Valpolicella Superiore, Romano dal Forno Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

2015 Valpolicella Superiore, Romano dal Forno

    £12500

Legendary Romano Dal Forno has made wine at his family estate since 1983. His Amarone is the pinnacle of his production, but he uses the same care and attention to his Valpolicella, which is superior to many other producers’ Amarone. A traditional Corvina-based blend, fermented in steel before 24 months in oak barrique.

It is an Amarone in all but name, made entirely from appassimento berries – grapes dried for 20-25 days. The 2015 vintage was exceptional for Valpolicella, as in much of Northern Italy, bringing incredible levels of concentration to the wine. The wine has a deep crimson, rim-staining colour. The nose is rich, full of high-toned aromatics, neroli floral scents, dried cherry, raisins and sweeter vanilla tones. The palate is impressively structured, the oak tannins melding with the rich red cherry fruit, bringing great depth to the palate. There is a great balance of flavours beyond the sweet, dried fruit, with savoury fresh tobacco and sweeter almond pastry notes. Despite the immense concentration, there is plenty of acidity keeping the palate vibrant. With such richness and structure, this will give a good 10-15 years’ drinking pleasure.
