    £3795

Born of a long-held desire to craft world-class sparkling wines, the House of Arras is a true expression of its origin and maker – a marriage of exceptional cold climate Tasmanian vineyards and uncompromising sparkling winemaking techniques mastered over decades. The House of Arras Rosé is a sophisticated sparkling rosé style with a wonderful balance of red fruits and complexity from age.

On the nose, the wine imparts lifted fresh red berry fruits complemented by nuances of field mushrooms, toast and fresh oyster. An initial rush of strawberries and cream on the palate is followed by sourdough, lychee and truffle flavours. A seamless wine of low dosage, with structural elegance built around fine tannins and a firm natural acid backbone. 2017 ‘White Cliffs’ Blanc de Blancs, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £3950

Classic, vibrant aromas of citrus and green apple are balanced with subtle brioche notes and distinctive English minerality and finesse.  White Cliffs 2017 is the first release of a Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine from Simpsons’ Wine Estate, created from 100% estate-grown Chardonnay

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

2017 ‘The Trouble with Dreams’ Brut, Sugrue SouthDowns

    £5900

The Trouble with Dreams is a classic blend of barrel-fermented Chardonnay and Pinot Noir boasting great purity and elegance, with lemon and apple aromas leading to a palate of delicate stone fruit and refreshingly crisp acidity. This is long, complex and absolutely delicious.

A portion of the fruit for this vintage was sourced from the Storrington Priory Vineyard. The majority of grapes came from the exceptional Mount Harry Vineyard near Lewes, in East Sussex. Both of the vineyards are located in Sussex, sitting above the 50th parallel and are influenced by a cool coastal climate. The vineyards have east and southeasterly aspects respectively, encouraging the maximum exposure to the sun, assisting ripening in this capricious climate. The soils are dominated by South Downs chalk which provides superior drainage for the vines, as well as imparting great elegance and finesse to the wines.
