This incredible value wine is produced by the Cellers Unio co-operative in Terra Alta, west of the Catalonia coastline. Garnacha thrives in these hot conditions, while the local winds blow through the vineyard, helping to temper the heat and keep the vines clean.
The wine opens in the glass with expressive aromas of flowers and red fruits with some really interesting balsamic notes. The palate is ripe, fresh and fruity with a touch of sweetness.

The wine is a blend of Garnacha, Syrah and Monastrell sourced from the rising star Valencia DO, and has been made by award-winning winemaker Victor Marqués at the state-of-the-art Bodegas Murviedro. Unoaked and fermented in stainless steel, this wine is all about freshness and capturing the essence of the Valencian sunshine.
This wine has aromas of black fruits, vanilla and toasted almonds, with a rich and rounded palate. It will pair beautifully with grilled meats, stews or cheese.
Red WineA Monastrell from 50 year-old-vines, Hecula is a deep, alluring purple in the glass, boasting aromas of blueberry, wild raspberry, and liquorice with hints of violet and allspice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with an inviting richness. Notes of toasted cedar and nutmeg are neatly integrated with red berry fruit. Silky mouthfeel and soft, ripe tannins are balanced by the wine’s juicy acidity.
This wine is from Las Gruesas and Pozuelo vineyards which are situated at an altitude 750 metres above sea level. This area has a very different microclimate from the rest of the region which is clearly continental. It has minimum temperatures of -10°C in winter and up to 42°C in summer. The area is prone to infrequent but heavy spells of rain. The average age of the vines is 50 years old and the density is 1,600 vines per hectare. Soils are a mix of sandstone and limestone.
A vibrant and juicy, unoaked Tempranillo showing great purity and typicity from high altitude vines. Expressive and well-defined aromas of red berries, rosemary, and a touch of liquorice are echoed on the palate. Fresh, with a rounded texture and excellent persistence on the palate, through to a satisfyingly dry finish.
The grapes are grown in high-altitude vineyards in the northernmost part of Central Castile, where the continental climate enjoys sunny days and cool nights. This diurnal temperature difference encourages grapes with intense fruit and excellent varietal definition, which retaining remarkable freshness. The vineyards are sustainably managed and organically farmed as part of an integrated ecosystem. Low annual rainfall results in low disease pressure, enabling the vines to be grown without the aid of fungicides. Fertilisers have never been used, only organic manure is applied and weed control is managed by a low, superficial tilling. Rainwater is collected in a small reservoir and is used for drip irrigation in the case of extreme drought.

Red WineThis fantastic 100% Tempranillo is from the Toro appellation which is in the Castilla y León in north-western Spain.
This is a young, fresh expression of Tempranillo aged for 6 months in 100% French oak. In the glass it has an alluring deep red colour with a very expressive nose of berries fruit, caramel and vanilla notes. The palate is rich and structured with supple tannins. Flavours of red fruits, vanilla along with hints of balsamic abound. A fantastic Bbq wine made for drinking in the next few years.
Red WineThis is a classically made Rioja that is a smooth and rounded traditional Rioja blend of red berried fruits and beautifully integrated oaky notes of subtle spice and vanilla.
The fruit for Hugonell Crianza comes from vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and a little from Rioja Oriental. The average age of the vines is approximately 15 years and the soil patterns in the vineyards are a combination of the well-known limestone-clay-alluvial mixture, which is found in most of Central Rioja.
This beauty is made from 100% Monastrell grapes that are grown in certified organic vineyards located in the Jumilla DO of Mencia in Southeastern Spain. The 2020 ‘Stone Elephant’ is a superb example of Monastrell, with its powerful and intense nose of ripe black fruits supported by subtle hints of spice from a deft use of oak. The vibrant fruit is rounded out with a savoury note and it shows great purity on the finish.

Born in one of the most northern areas of the Iberian Peninsula for the cultivation of grapes, the Finca Legardeta. This terroir, located 45 km from Pamplona is where these three unique wines are born, which have adapted perfectly to this enclave thanks to its climate and type of soil.
After 10 months in French oak barrels, the 2017 Garnacha shows a ruby red colour with intense violet hues. Its nose is fruity, with a predominance of red fruit (raspberry, strawberry), caramelised apple notes, very direct and seductive. Good entry on the palate, elegant, full-bodied, with refreshing and balanced acidity.
As Julián Chivite points out, “the confluence of the Atlantic and continental climates in Legardeta, allows the Garnacha variety to reach perfect maturity, resulting in a wine of great varietal clarity and unusual freshness”.
Red WineReminiscent of the old mountain Garnacha vineyards, this delivers complex aromas of blackberry, plum, fig and thyme, with subtle nuances of balsamic and oak spice. With smooth tannins, the full palate is framed by an intense concentration of fruit through to a harmoniously balanced finish.
The grapes for this cuvee come from a selection of old Garnacha vines that are over 60 years old, which produce low yields of concentrated fruit. The vineyards are located in the hills of the Sierra Santa Cruz where the soils are quartzite and slate, which offer heat retaining properties during the cooler nights of this hilly location.
An elegant expression of Garnacha with effortless notes of raspberry, sweet and sour cherry laced with distinctive minerality. Smooth with a savoury note on the palate, this is full of finesse.
The grapes come from old Garnacha vines that are grown at high altitudes, ranging from 800 to 1,000 metres elevation. The extreme climate of hot days and cool evenings promotes a long, ripening period concentrating the flavours and aromatic complexity of the grapes.
Ramon Bilbao Edición Limitada Crianza offers a different and more opulent style of Rioja, which retains elegance and freshness at the same time.
In the glass, it has an intense ruby red colour with black cherry glints. High fruit intensity on the nose, with a perfect balance of dark fruit and oak on the palate. The spicy nuances play a key role, with black pepper, cloves and cumin. Fresh wood aromas with notes of cocoa, dry tobacco leaves and mint and a smooth, fruity mouth-feel with a long finish. Polished tannins and refreshing acidity.

The Castaño family owns over 410 hectares of vineyards in the Yecla DO in south-eastern Spain. 80% of these vineyards are planted with the native Monastrell variety. For several generations, Bodegas Castaño has been a pioneer in this region and has come to symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude, resulting in wines of great character and finesse.
The grapes for the 2015 ‘Coleccion’ were harvested from 70-year-old Monastrell vines and 32-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, planted at 750 metres above sea level. Dark and intense in colour, this wine is complex on the nose, with ripe black fruit aromas, notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. Soft on the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet delicate, with marked but elegant sweet tannins, and a long finish.
Badiola is the creation of 2 Masters of Wine, Andreas Kubach and Sam Harrop along with txakoli producer Gorka Izagirre. Andreas and Sam along with Winemaker Tao Plantón craft modern Rioja wines with an emphasis on-site rather than how long it has aged in an oak barrel. The winemaking philosophy is to obtain very pure, fresh and well-textured wines that reflect their origin.
The 2018 Tempranillo de Laderas has pure and precise aromas of cherries and red berries are layered with herbal notes of thyme through to a textured palate. This wine shows an excellent balance between fresh natural acidity, fruit concentration and firm, but fine-grained tannins.
‘Laderas’ means hillside and this wine takes its name from the hillside vineyards on which the grapes are grown. The fruit is carefully selected from over 300 parcels that are situated on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, in Rioja Alavesa. The average plot size is just 0.3 hectares and the average age of the vineyard is approximately 50 years, but some of the vines are significantly older, producing low yields of concentrated juice. The Gobelet trained vines are planted in limestone soils, resulting in elegant wines that are fresh, precise and age-worthy due to the balancing acidity.
