This classic Muscadet from the Loire Valley is refreshing and pure, with white fruit and citrus characters combined with crisp acidity, bright minerality and a lemony hint on the finish.

This delicious and refreshing homage to Alsace is made from grapes whose vineyards are located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Characterised by the influence of the Southern Ocean, which provides breezes from the Antarctic, chilling the grapes and making it an ideal growing climate for Riesling and Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc – varietals that excel at these lower temperatures.
Riesling’s cool lime and minerality meshes with Gewurztraminer’s exotic spice and rose water. The softly textured palate has a long, refreshing acidity supported by citrus notes and rose petal on the finish.
The wine is called Stone’s Throw because the Riesling and Gewürztraminer are planted a stone’s throw from each other in the same vineyard.

Low annual rainfall results in low disease pressure, enabling the vines to be grown without the aid of fungicides. Fertilisers have never been used, only organic manure is applied and weed control is managed by a low, superficial tilling. Rainwater is collected in a small reservoir and is used for drip irrigation in the case of extreme drought.

Working with a model of micro viticulture, each plot, of no more than half a hectare, is identified according to its terroir and microclimate and planted accordingly. Grapes are subjected to specific pruning, irrigation, canopy management and harvesting, which results in grapes of optimum quality and flavour.

This zone is characterised by its combination of altitude, alluvial soils, sunny days, low rainfall and wide temperature ranges. The diurnal temperatures here oscillate between 35°C and 17°C, creating long, slow ripening periods; concentrating the flavours in the fruit while retaining refreshing balance. The cool climate and white chalky soil, impart great structure and a delicious acidity to the wine
The high acid, bold flavoured Campanian grape Fiano has really found it’s second home in Australia, especially in Heathcote where it regularly outshines the red grapes on the same site in a traditional red-wine growing region. Chalmers have a museum of Fiano wines dating back over a decade with even the older wines still singing. The 2012 Chalmers Fiano is no exception, melding delicate stone fruits and almond blossom with savoury lees contact characters and minerality, displaying texture and power in the mouth whilst retaining a fine, fresh finish.
Chalmers Fiano is whole bunch pressed and fermented on solids, 10% in old French oak barriques, 90% in stainless steel tanks without yeast addition. The temperature of fermentation is limited to 15 degrees. After fermentation is finished the wine rests on lees in tank for 6 – 9 months before being bottled. The Fiano is then aged in bottle for a further 24 months before release allowing the wine to develop in richness and texture.

The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

Verdeca is a relatively rare white-wine grape variety from southern Italy and is known for being excellent with seafood dishes. This 2022 Verdeca ‘Talo’ from San Marzano is quite delightful, fresh and unoaked. It has rich aromatics of white flowers, crisp green apple and a hint of honey. Full-flavoured, with a creamy texture and a thirst-quenching finish.
