  • 2021 Zibibbo ‘Vitese’, Colomba BiancaWhite Wine

    2021 Zibibbo ‘Vitese’, Colomba Bianca

    £1295

This crisp, fruity Zibibbo shows lifted notes of succulent white peach combined with soft floral aromatics of orange blossom and jasmine. Elegant and perfumed with a long, zesty citrus finish.

Zibibbo, as it is known locally in Sicily, is the synonym for Muscat of Alexandria. It produces highly aromatic wines and is the local’s pride and joy. Here in these sundrenched vineyards, the highest standards are attained through the use of innovative technology and the careful process of mapping the terroir according to the weather patterns, harvesting time, soils and vine age. The grapes undergo a sensory analysis and are hand-harvested at the optimum maturity levels, according to the terroir and microclimate of the vineyard. They are then harvested into 20-kilogram containers, to prevent the grapes from being prematurely crushed. The vineyards are made up of distinct soil and climate conditions and range from sea-level up to 700 metres above sea level, imparting subtle complexity into the wine.

  • 2020 ‘Orivatis’ Old Vine Savatiano, AkriotouWhite Wine

2020 ‘Orivatis’ Old Vine Savatiano, Akriotou

    £1350

Made from the native Savatiano grape, this offers a complex and aromatic bouquet of ripe peach, quince, creamy vanilla and an intriguing hint of Turkish delight. Dry with perfectly balanced freshness, intense notes of grapefruit, pepper, ginger and wild mint lead to a long and spicy finish.

The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard called ‘Plataies’, located in Plataea, a small village at the foot of the Kitheronas Mountain, in Central Greece. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 250 to 320 metres elevation and during the autumn and winter months, cool air masses blow down from the mountains, carrying dew which refreshes the vineyard with crucial humidity. Cold winters, hot summers and long, dry autumns combine with long periods of sunshine to enable the grapes to reach excellent maturity and complexity. The Savatiano variety is suited to the hot, dry climate as it has excellent drought-resistant properties. The grapes for this wine come from old vines of 40 to 60 years, which are pruned according to the traditional Gobelet style and produce low yields of concentrated fruit.

  • 2019 Kydonitsa, Monemvasia Winery TsimbidiWhite Wine

    2019 Kydonitsa, Monemvasia Winery Tsimbidi

    £1350

Kydonitsa is Greek for quince and this wine is true to its name showing ripe quince and elegant aromas of tropical fruits. Creamy and full flavoured on the palate with a mouthwatering freshness and a long aromatic and sweetly spiced finish. Perfect with seafood, especially fresh lobster or grilled fish.

Kydonitsa ( pronounced Ki-do-NI-tsa) is a rare, old local variety and one of the components of the legendary wine Malvasia. The vineyard is located on the peninsula of Maleus at the foothills of the Parnonas Mountain range at an altitude of 80 metres above sea level. Surrounded by the Myrtoo Sea to the North West and by the Laconian Gulf to the South West, the vineyard is influenced by a Mediterranean climate with high sunshine hours and coastal sea breezes. The soils are clay loam and rich in minerals. All these factors contribute in creating a unique terroir and the climatic conditions present an ideal environment for healthy vines, which are cultivated with minimal intervention.

  • 2021 ‘Mariana’ White, Herdade do RocimWhite Wine

2021 ‘Mariana’ White, Herdade do Rocim

    £1375

A richly flavoured and aromatic wine with exuberant tropical and herbal notes complemented by a lovely citrus freshness on the zesty finish.

Herdade do Rocim is associated with the Sustainable Program of the Alentejo Viticulture. This wine is made from organically grown grapes; 70% of the vineyard is certified and the remaining 30% is in conversion. The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30-mile long east-west facing escarpment that rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location, it is one of the most temperate sub-regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights. The soils are of granitic and schistous origin. The water level in the soil is rich and superficial, nourishing the vines during the warm summers.

  • 2021 Sauvignon Blanc, Baleia WinesWhite Wine

    2021 Sauvignon Blanc, Baleia Wines

    £1375

Baleia is a place of whales and wonder, where wines are born from rocky limestone soil in a remote and unspoilt corner of the Cape South Coast. Here vines overcome fierce elements to create fruit with singular character and depth of flavour. Beyond evocative wine, Baleia is also about finding harmony between self, others and nature in pursuit of life’s perfect equilibrium.

This Sauvignon Blanc is lovely and juicy with tropical fruits such as passion fruit and lychee dancing on the palate with saline undertones from the mineral soil in which it is grown.

Making Sauvignon Blanc one is often faced with the temptation of making very upfront and unnuanced wines that lack a sense of place. Baleia has chosen to take the road less travelled by choosing texture and minerality from the site to portray the beauty of the terroir.

  • 2020 Viognier, TahbilkWhite Wine

    2020 Viognier, Tahbilk

    £1395

This delicious Viognier from a dry vintage has an intense and fragrant nose of rose petal and ginger spice leading to a softly textured palate of apricot, peach and honeydew melon characters. All this lifted by a deliciously zesty acidity on the finish.

“Our 2020 Estate whites will be remembered for their lifted fruit intensity, with no better example than this Viognier release. Vivacious ginger, rose petal and citrus blossom aromas are a siren’s song temptation to a textural palate of stone fruit and honeysuckle characters.” – Alister Purbrick ~ Tahbilk Winemaker & CEO

Tahbilk’s relationship with the varietals that call France’s Rhone Valley home can be traced back to our earliest days with a good deal of fortuitous luck leading to the establishment of that connection rather than a grand plan looking ahead over 160 years!
Prior to taking possession of what would become the Tahbilk Estate, one of the directors placed an advertisement in the leading newspapers of Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Sydney for 1,000,000 vines. This resulted in the Tabilk Vineyard Company (as we were known then) receiving around 600,000 vine cuttings, among which was the white ‘Rhone’ varietal, Marsanne.
Marsanne being the solo ‘Rhone’ whites’ flag-waver for the Estate ended in 1990 with the successful planting of Viognier and Roussanne.
Marsanne will always be the undisputed leader of this trio, but there is no doubt that each of these two relatively new Estate ‘Rhone’s’ are showing that they have to have admirably embraced their adopted homeland.

  • 2020 Great Southern Chardonnay, Three LionsWhite Wine

2020 Great Southern Chardonnay, Three Lions

    £1450

Made by Great Southern pioneers/icons, Plantagenet, this wine is vibrant yellow-gold in colour. Peach and nectarine aromas dominate with hints of nougat and lemon blossom, and a touch of waxy citrus leaf. On the palate, crunchy white nectarine gives a real sense of freshness, balanced perfectly with a mineral drive, creamy texture and subtle toasty notes.

Plantagenet’s 126 hectares of vineyards have been carved out of the region’s distinctive Marri soils, named after the massive native Marri, or Red Gum, trees that grow there. Fruit for this wine was sourced from two of the estate’s sites, Rocky Horror and Crystal Brook. Located 15km south of Mount Barker, Rocky Horror was planted in 1999 on soils consisting of deep gravel loam over ironstone with, with a north and west-facing aspect. Crystal Brook, established in 1988, lies 4km from Rocky Horror on a fertile mix of gravel loam and sand soils. All vineyard operations are completed with an active focus on sustainability in order to maximise biodiversity.
