2015 Apostrophe Stone’s Throw White, Larry Cherubino

    £1695

The Apostrophe wines are stylistic blends made from grapes grown in the Great Southern area of Western Australia.  Textural and delicious, this white is made with no oak.  A blend of Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, growing up a Stone’s Throw away on the same vineyard.  Riesling’s cool lime and minerality meshes with Gewurztraminer’s exotic spice and rose water. The softly textured palate has a long, refreshing acidity supported by citrus notes and rose petal on the finish.

  • 2015 ‘Coleccion’ DO Yecla, Bodega CastanoRed Wine

2015 ‘Coleccion’ DO Yecla, Bodega Castano

    £1695

The Castaño family owns over 410 hectares of vineyards in the Yecla DO in south-eastern Spain. 80% of these vineyards are planted with the native Monastrell variety. For several generations, Bodegas Castaño has been a pioneer in this region and has come to symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude, resulting in wines of great character and finesse.

The grapes for the 2015 ‘Coleccion’ were harvested from 70-year-old Monastrell vines and 32-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, planted at 750 metres above sea level.  Dark and intense in colour, this wine is complex on the nose, with ripe black fruit aromas, notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. Soft on the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet delicate, with marked but elegant sweet tannins, and a long finish.

    2015 Lunatico, Domaine Aubai Mema

    £2100

We love old vine Grenache and this beauty is no exception!  Intense ruby colour in the glass with a focused, expressive nose with upfront red fruit and a subtle spice note. Full, ample, warm palate opening up to the fruit. The peppery nose dimension recurs on the finish. Lovely length that draws you into that second sip…

The Grenache for Lunatico comes from a small north-facing vineyard over half a century old. The grapes are hand-picked then sorted, though not destemmed, and vinified very gently over a 25 day period using only natural yeasts. The 24 months spent in 600-litre barrels gives Lunatico an ageing perspective of 10-15 years.

  • 2015 Llicorella Blanc, Cellers UnioWhite Wine

    2015 Llicorella Blanc, Cellers Unio

    £2100

This wine is a ‘Vi de Vila’ – made from grapes harvested from a single village (in this case 40-year-old PX vines from the village of Poboleda). The wine is fermented in modern egg-shaped polypropylene tanks to enable controlled micro-oxygenation. It is then aged on the lees for 3 months before being bottled unoaked.

One of only 2 Spanish regions awarded DOQ status (the other is Rioja), Priorat is known for the quality of its wines from rocky, silica slate (Llicorella) soils. The high diurnal range in Priorat contributes to producing fresh, aromatic wines.

Bright golden in colour. Complex aromatics with hints of white fruits, blossom and peach. The palate is creamy and tropical, with a long finish. Serve chilled with smoked salmon, grilled seafood and creamy cheese.

  • 2015 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’ArenbergWhite Wine

2015 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’Arenberg

    £2250

The 2015 Dry Dam Riesling is named after a neighbouring farmers dam that year after year was either dry or didn’t hold water.

Jasmine and orange blossom, along with lemon and lime characters leap from the glass. The sugar-acid balance from this fine vintage is impeccable. While both are present, they manage to meld together creating a mouth-watering yet supple sherbet character, which finishes dry and mineral, not cloying in the slightest.

A pleasure to drink right now, this wine will evolve elegantly for many years to come.

  • 2015 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’ArenbergWhite Wine

2015 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’Arenberg

    £2350

The Dry Dam Riesling 2020 has a delightfully lifted nose, loaded with lemons, limes, jasmine and Granny Smith. The palate displays a wonderful balance between acid and sweetness, giving that Dry Dam hallmark of sherbet-like character. Full of flavour yet pristine and refined. Drinks perfectly well young but promises to age well, developing toasty, marmalade notes for beyond a decade.

The Name. : In 1992 d’Arenberg’s neighbours built a dam that remained empty, as it was a dry winter. The next year it rained but the dam was jinxed and didn’t hold water. A dry dam was bad news for d’Arenberg’s neighbouring farmers but promises good results for their old, dry-grown, low-yielding vines.

A vibrant Mencia, with aromatic notes of lilac, violet, fresh red fruits interlaced with mineral overtones. Harmoniously balanced, with restrained tannins and a textured palate, full of fleshy red fruits and a savoury character on the long, intense finish.

The grapes come from a single vineyard ‘Viñas O Val’ in the DO Bierzo, in the north-western Spanish province of Castilla León. Low yielding 60-year-old vines are grown in clay soils with ‘Coios’, a Spanish term for boulders, which gave this wine its name. These old vines have deep root systems which nourish the vines imparting complex flavours in the resulting wine. Planted at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare, the vines are grown at an altitude of 550 to 590 metres above sea level. The cool nights extends the ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity. • 2015 Les Allées de Cantemerle, Château CantemerleRed Wine

2015 Les Allées de Cantemerle, Château Cantemerle

    £2700

A traditional and deeply coloured Bordeaux, with a delicate, elegant bouquet of blackcurrant and tobacco through to a smooth, silky palate with a touch of raspberry on the finish.  This second wine of Château Cantemerle comes mainly from the Château’s young vines and is produced in the same way as its elder brother. Les Allées de Cantemerle has the same great personality as the Grand Vin, but is ready to drink earlier.

Situated in the Haut-Médoc, the Château de Cantermerle vineyard covers 91 hectares of vines. The soils are silica-gravel, which are a result of a thousand-year-old erosion of the Pyrenees by the River Garonne and form one of the fundamental elements of this quality vineyard. The soils are poor in nutrients, so the vines ‘struggle’, resulting in grapes with a high concentration of flavour. In addition, the small pebbles in the soil provide a filter and contribute to the grape’s maturity by reflecting the sun’s rays during the day and retaining the heat during the cooler nights. The vines have an average age of 30 years.
