White WineAn excellent example of white St Joseph from the Northern Rhône; this is very aromatic, with floral notes combining with ripe peach and a touch of brioche on the nose. Richly textured, but beautifully balanced on the palate with a refreshing finesse on the finish.

This 2015 ‘1927 Vines’ Marsanne is one of the limited-release wines that are produced from the Estate’s 1927 planted Marsanne vines – some of the oldest in the world.
In the glass, it opens with complex aromas of mineral, lemon and orange citrus, accompanied by fresh hay overtones. Zesty notes of lemon, grapefruit, toast and classic rich honeysuckle weave through the textured palate, beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity.
Tahbilk’s history with Marsanne is traced back to the 1860s with the sourcing of ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings from the ‘St Hubert’s’ Vineyard in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. The grape was Marsanne and although none of these plantings has survived, the Estate still produces Marsanne from plantings dating back to 1927. Marsanne is one of the world’s rarest grape varieties originating in the Northern Rhone & Hermitage regions of France it is grown in only 3 other countries, Australia, America & Switzerland. Tahbilk holds the largest and oldest single holding of the variety in the world.
White WineStargazer pays tribute to Abel Tasman, who as an explorer and navigator, must have spent a fair amount of time gazing towards the heavens. Tasman, a Dutchman under the employ of the United East India Company was the first European to sight Tasmania (on 24 November 1642) and then the South Island of New Zealand, nineteen days later on 13 December.
The Stargazer Riesling is quartz-green in colour. Crammed with vibrant Cox’s Orange apple and lemon pith notes on the nose, as well as lifted jasmine and crystallised ginger aromatics. The palate’s bright acidity and river stone flavours are balanced with gentle fruit sweetness and talc-like texture.
The fruit for this Riesling was sourced from the Hanigan family in the Derwent Valley, twenty minutes north of Hobart. Overlooking the Derwent River, the riesling, an unknown clone, was planted in 1993 on its own roots on loam over limestone soils. It is cane pruned and trained to a vertical shoot positioned trellis, and shoot thinned in the spring.
Handpicked and whole bunched pressed, only the pristine free-run juice was retained for this wine. The relatively cloudy juice was racked off solids and wild fermented over a period of six weeks before being arrested with a small amount of residual sugar. It spent six weeks on gross lees with weekly stirring to build texture prior to bottling in July.
Red WineA prestigious property in the Margaux appellation, Château la Tour de Mons has been part of the Médoc landscape since the 13th century and since 2012 it has belonged to the portfolio of the Grands Crus Châteaux and benefits from the advice of the famous oenologist Éric Boissenot.
Marquis de Mons is 2nd wine from this chateau and this offering comes from spectacularly generous and supple 2015 vintage. Aromas of refined mulberry, cassis and fresh tobacco with a touch of roasted meat around the edges, alongside a hint well-handled oak. Medium-full bodied with lovely balance and impressive concentration, finishing with soft, satisfying broad-grained tannins.
Red WineThis is an exceptional Syrah from Domaine Courbis, the masters of Cornas and allegedly there entry-level wine! Intense and dark, the nose on this gorgeous Syrah immediately strikes you with notes of plum, of dark cherry and violets. The palate is silky, with ripe tannins that build giving the wine volume and a plush mouthfeel.
White WineSalvaxe is a wine which is made with minimal intervention in the vineyard and the cellar, a blend of native numerous old vine native Galician grapes it has intense ripe fruit aromas combined with floral, spicy and mineral notes. Beautifully balanced with a fresh yet textured palate and elegant fruit flavours on the long, persistent finish. 2015 was an almost perfect vintage and the grapes were harvested in perfect health and the resulting wines are capable of great ageing. Drink now to 2030.

The vineyards for Salvaxe are situated in the village of Gomariz, in the heart of the Ribeiro DO in North-Western Spain. Consisting of several indigenous varieties to Galicia including Lado and Treixadura, the vines vary in age from 60 to 90 years and are planted at a density of 4,000 to 7,000 vines per hectare. These old vines are low yielding, with deep root systems that impart complex flavours. The vineyards sit at an altitude of 180 to 250 metres and the soils are a mix of clay and schist.
Red WineThe 2015 Carignane is built from two great sources in Mendocino County, both farmed by the father-son team of Don and Darrin Colombini. The primary source is the Rovera vineyard, planted in 1942 in the sandy, quartz-flecked soils of the eastern bench of Redwood Valley. The Rovera vines have incredibly small clusters and berries, with correspondingly low yields—less than 2 tons per acre in 2015. This gives the fruit tremendous intensity and depth, backed by lightning-rod acidity. The Cemetery vineyard planted 1954, is dry-farmed in almost pure gravel and contributes bright cherry fruit and aromatic lift.
The resultant wine features vivacious blackberry and raspberry aromas inflected with iron-like mineral complexity. Carignane has an intensely savoury edge to its fruit: stones, smoke, and celery seeds, evoking the wild herbs and rocks of its homeland in the Priorat of Spain. The palate is rich and generous, with plenty of structure from Carignane’s characteristic acidity and tannin.

A wise and careful ageing process in wood is appreciated in its seductive and well-balanced character and fresh sensations. It makes no attempt to hide the power of its modern profile but the character of a traditional wine and other more evolved touches are never far away. A top-quality Reserva wine produced by a winery steeped in expertise creating classic Rioja wines.
Head winemaker Julio Saenz refers to it as “our little Burgundy” because of how closely it represents this unique location. In fact, the wine itself is a field blend, 95% Tempranillo with 5% other varieties including Mazuelo, Garnacha, and even Viura. The chalk soils and 80-year-old vines at Torre de Oña produce a fuller, riper style of Rioja, while the high altitude and Atlantic influence in Rioja Alavesa keeps the wine fresh and elegant. This style is complemented by the use of 20% French oak and shorter maturation, alongside La Rioja Alta’s ultra-traditional methods such as racking by hand.

It is complex while at the same time showing purity and restraint that will unwind slowly in the glass to begin a sensory journey.
At its best with food, The Virgilius complements a wide range of flavors, particularly dishes with spice and richness.
White WineSam Connew, previously Chief Winemaker at the famous Wirra Wirra vineyards, said she would never start her own wine label.
Never.
She packed her bags and left the McLaren Vale to her home in the Hunter Valley. A couple of trips to Tassie later, and boom, Stargazer was born.
It is a labour of love for Sam, making small quantities of wine from small parcels of fruit, striving for individuality and quality.
Sams wines are beautiful, ethereal representations of the Apple Isle.
The 2015 Chardonnay was sourced from Tolpuddle vineyard – a famous Chardonnay vineyard in Tasmania. It’s a cracker, with icing sugar-dusted apples, subtle vanilla spice and great clarity and drive of grapefruit, hints of bruised apple and this vineyard’s signature steely slate character.
Red WineThe 2015 Viña Alberdi Reserva is 100% Tempranillo from vineyards that are 40years old and at a high altitude of 500-600 metres above sea level.
In the glass, it has an intense, medium-high depth, ruby-red; clean and bright. The nose particularly stands for its red fruit (raspberries, wild strawberries and red plums), which give way to notes of vanilla, nutmeg, caramel and cedar from barrel ageing. Flavour-packed, balanced and very fresh, with smooth, friendly tannins. Harmonious, well-balanced finish, with a pleasant final freshness that invites you to continue enjoying this vintage for years to come.
This wine stands out for its food-pairing versatility. It is the ideal companion to appetizers, snacks and barbecues, perfect with rice, pasta and creams, and great with lightly-grilled meat and fish.
White WineLocated in Sauternes, on one of the greatest white wine terroirs in France, the Clos des Lunes is a magnificent rolling vineyard planted with old sémillon and sauvignon blanc vines. On very old vines, some perfectly golden clusters are chosen and delicately sorted grain by grain, by expert hands.
The wine is pale gold in the glass – which is rather apt considering the name! The nose is very expressive with fragrances of tangerine, lemon and grapefruit with wafts of fresh hay and chamomile. Together these aromas give a mouthwatering sensation. This leads into the racy palate that is complex, textural – preserved lemons, stone fruits and a delicious passion fruit taste. The finish is long luscious and minerally.
Red WineThis gorgeous Syrah shows the synergy between highly skilled winemakers and a genuinely great Syrah vineyard.
Floral and expressive on the nose with aromas of pepper, blueberry and black olive. The texture is what really stands out on the palate. Fresh and complex with spicy black pepper, meat and some olive tapenade flavour. The finish is full of energy and just befits what came before.
A truly delicious glass of wine and very moreish.
Also worth remembering that California wine is generally expensive in the UK and we at Wine Republic believe that if a more famous winery or brand made this, you would be paying substantially more.
Red WineThe second wine of Leoville Barton, this traditionally styled Bordeaux has an expressive nose of forest berries with hints of cedar, coffee, and a touch of vanilla spice. Elegant and refined, with a long finish.
Despite initially challenging weather, the 2018 Bordeaux vintage was excellent. The winter was unusually wet and remained so throughout spring. Hail also struck some vineyards during this period. However, conditions eased, allowing for a successful flowering followed by a particularly hot, dry summer with surprisingly cool nights, from June through to September. September brought welcome rains, reviving the vines. Harvest took place under ideal conditions, producing small, thick-skinned and highly concentrated berries, resulting in rich wines, with balancing acidity and a fresh, fruity appeal.
