2021 Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc, Lismore

    £3095

Lismore Estate is based in Greyton within the Overberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa.  It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines.   ‘ I had a farm in Africa….’  The opening line of Karen Blixen’s classic memoir Out Of Africa comes to mind when you hear Samantha’s amazing story.

We love barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc at Wine Republic and this beauty is made in an “oxidative” style using old 500-litre barrels for 70% of the fermentation and maturation bringing forward richness, intense fruit and complexity. 30% of the wine is fermented and aged in 1500-litre concrete egg tanks to enhance the rich palate texture and minerality. In both the barrels and the eggs, extended less contact adds complexity and a richer, creamy texture which works beautifully with the bright citrus and fresh herb notes and salty minerality from the grape.

    2021 Roero Arneis, Bruno Giacosa

    £3195

Bruno Giacosa is considered to be one of Piedmont’s most highly regarded producers, their wines are some of the most highly sought-after in the world. Sadly the great man passed away in 2018 but since 2011 winemaking has been overseen by his protegé Dante Scaglione, together with his daughter Bruna Giacosa.

This perfect everyday drinking wine from a magnificent vintage is made from Arneis, the noblest white grape of Piemonte, which means ‘rascal’ in the local dialect.  Grown in the sandy soils of the Roero it lives up to its name with its playful and lively charm.

The sand of the Roero region gives elegance and minerality to this wine, while the aromas lean towards exotic fruit, confit citrus notes and white flowers. Crisp and refreshing – a delicious Arneis from a master of the variety.

2021 ‘Vallado’ Touriga Nacional, Quinta do Vallado

    £3200

Touriga Nacional, the original pirate grape!   Touriga vines produce small, intense berries that, as in this 2021 Vallado, give a wine displaying richly concentrated flavours of ripe red fruits layered with balsamic notes of oak and hints of violet. The palate is beautifully balanced with ripe, rounded tannins and a long, fresh finish.

The grapes for this wine come from a certified organic vineyard. The vines are planted at altitudes ranging between 80 and 400 metres on south and west-facing slopes, which maximise exposure to the sun, assisting the grapes’ ripening potential. The landscape is characterised by the terraces that make up the vineyards. The soils are made up of schist, a slate-like metamorphic rock which is rich in nutrients and also offers useful water retention properties.

2021 Hunting Hill Pinot Noir, Kumeu River

    £3200

The 2021 Hunting Hill Pinot Noir marks the continued evolution of Kumeu River’s pursuit of exceptional red wines. Established in 1994, the Pinot Noir vines on our Kumeu Estate are planted with top-quality Burgundy clones, grafted onto low-vigour rootstocks to ensure low yields and concentrated flavours.

The 2021 vintage offers an exceptional expression of this site, with the fruit harvested in perfect conditions. The wine displays a pure and vibrant nose of ripe cherry, complemented by subtle notes of earthiness and gaminess. On the palate, it is supple and harmonious, with a silky texture balanced by a fine tannic structure that will allow this wine to age gracefully over the next 5–7 years.

    2021 Chenin Blanc, Lismore

    £3300

Lismore Estate is based in Greyton within the Overberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa.  It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines.  O’Keefe’s vision was to create wines that reflect the unique terroir of this cool-climate region. Despite facing significant challenges, including a devastating fire in 2019, she has continued to produce wines of exceptional quality and character. Her commitment to expressing the purity and elegance of the region’s fruit is evident in every bottle.

In the glass, the nose is delicately aromatic, offering notes of orange blossom and jasmine, complemented by hints of mandarin and passion fruit. On the palate, it is taut and linear, with a crystalline acidity that provides structure and vitality. Subtle nuances of citrus and stone fruit are interwoven with a fine mineral backbone, leading to a racy and persistent finish. The wine’s balance and finesse make it immediately appealing and suitable for cellaring over the next 3–5 years.

2021 The Florita Riesling, Jim Barry

    £3350

Jim Barry’s iconic and outstanding single-vineyard Riesling, The Florita, stands tall at the top of the tree for Clare Valley Riesling.

Located fifteen kilometres south of Clare township in the tiny village of Watervale, Florita – Spanish for ‘little flower’ – comes from a famous Riesling vineyard planted to Palamino in 1946 for making Fino Sherry but was replanted to Riesling in 1962. This was the birthplace of Leo Buring Watervale Riesling and the Florita vineyards, where legendary winemaker John Vickery sourced his grapes for his great Watervale Rieslings of the 1960s and 1970s.

The 80-acre vineyard was bought by Mark, Peter and John Barry in 1986. First released as the ‘Florita Riesling’ in 2004 by Jim Barry Wines, this micro-batch Riesling is made from grapes hand-selected from individual rows. Its best fruit comes from vines planted in shallow loamy soils and the vineyard has good air-drainage which alleviates the risk of frost. A wine with a reputation second to none for consistency and a true benchmark wine.

The 2021 is a simply astonishing incarnation that Riesling lovers would be remiss to not have in their cellar. Drink 2027 – 2050 +

Full-bodied but smooth and balanced, with subtle minerality this is a classic expression of Argentinian Malbec.  The wines names ‘1300’ is derived from the fact the grapes were grown in vineyards located at over 1,300 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by its wide diurnal temperature range, which produces grapes with a great intensity of colour and a distinctive aromatic expression.

2021 Ripa Delle More IGT, Castello Vicchiomaggio

    £3395

A stylish red showing an abundance of ripe plummy and blueberry fruit, enhanced by hints of herbs and a delicate touch of mint. Layers of dark chocolate, vanilla and juniper.  Rich, soft and opulent tannins lead to a long, intense finish. Sophisticated Tuscan at its best.

Ripa delle More was created in 1980 as an innovation, breaking the rules of the time. Then it changed year after year to become a blend of traditional Sangiovese (50%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The grapes are carefully selected from the Ripa delle More vineyard, which is situated at an altitude of 255 to 265 metres above sea-level. The sustainably cultivated vines exceed 20 years in age and are pruned according to the single Guyot method to ensure low yields of approximately 42 hectolitres per hectare. The soil in this vineyard is ‘Galestro’, a rocky, schistous clay soil commonly found in most of Tuscany’s best vineyards, with 30% heavy clay.

2021 Talus Shiraz, Mount Langi Ghiran

    £3395

Perched at 350 m in Victoria’s Grampians region, Mount Langi Ghiran has been a benchmark for cool‑climate Shiraz since the Fratin brothers replanted in 1969. Today, under winemaker Adam Louder, who trained under Trevor Mast, the estate continues its legacy of crafting elegant, terroir‑driven Shiraz from pre‑phylloxera vines planted in ancient granite‑over‑clay soils.

In the glass, the 2021 Talus Shiraz displays perfumed notes of violet, blackberry, white pepper, and sage, layered over forest-floor, olive brine, and subtle mocha nuances.   The palate is full-bodied yet finely sculpted, with rich layers of dark plum, clove, and spice unfolding into a long, savoury finish framed by earthy minerality.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2023-wild-ferment-assyrtiko-gaia/">2023 Wild Ferment Assyrtiko, Gaia</a>

    2023 Wild Ferment Assyrtiko, Gaia

    £3500

This is probably the best Assyrtiko made in Greece and therefore anywhere!  A highly complex, aromatic nose and funky nose, with citrus notes combining with floral hints from the acacia wood, vanilla, toasty oak and a touch of smoke. The layers of wild ferment envelop this precise and dry wine which has a mineral and salty complexity to the tangy finish. This is a truly unique wine.

The Assyrtiko vineyard is located in Santorini and the terroir is recognised worldwide for its tremendous historical roots, as the vineyards in this area date back 3,000 years. The low-yielding, 80-year-old, self rooted vines are grown in soils that are poor in organic matter. The high sand content has ensured they have never been affected by phylloxera. The soils are also volcanic: porous with a high mineral content, which imparts the mineral quality to the wine. The long sunshine hours, lack of rainfall, sea mists and strong summer winds all contribute to the unique microclimate. The surrounding Aegean Sea acts as a “climatic buffer” that softens the climate, so the extreme conditions are reduced. The vines are trained on traditional basket-shaped systems called “kouloura”.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2020-old-vine-zinfandel-bedrock-wine-co/">2020 Old Vine Zinfandel, Bedrock Wine Co</a>

2020 Old Vine Zinfandel, Bedrock Wine Co

    £3595

Founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW, Bedrock Wine Co. is one of California’s most celebrated advocates for old vine preservation. The winery sources fruit from some of the state’s most storied and historic vineyards, many dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 2020 Old Vine Zinfandel is a tribute to that legacy, composed of fruit from multiple vineyards averaging over 80 years old, including sites in Sonoma, Contra Costa, and Lodi.

Morgan’s philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention winemaking, native fermentations, and restrained oak usage, allowing the character of these ancient vines and diverse terroirs to shine. While labelled as Zinfandel, the blend typically includes small amounts of field-blended varieties such as Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah, adding nuance and structure.

In the glass, the 2020 Old Vine Zinfandel is a compelling expression of California heritage and winemaking precision, vibrant, layered, and irresistibly expressive. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with a rush of ripe blackberry, raspberry compote, and wild plum, wrapped in a veil of anise, black pepper, and crushed herbs. On the palate, it is both juicy and taut, balancing generous fruit with savoury undertones of graphite, smoked tea, and dried lavender. Silky tannins and bright acidity provide lift and structure, while a touch of earth and spice lingers on the persistent finish. This is Zinfandel with energy, complexity, and a clear sense of place, eminently drinkable now, yet capable of short- to mid-term ageing.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2021-botmaskop-delaire-graff/">2021 Botmaskop, Delaire Graff</a>

    2021 Botmaskop, Delaire Graff

    £3600

Delaire Graff is one of the leading wine estates in South Africa and is situated on the top of the Helshoogte Pass in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. It looks down on the Banghoek Valley, and the West and East facing sides of the majestic Simonsberg.

This 2021 Botmaskop (see below) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc with a splash of Petit Verdot and Merlot.  It is an opulent and polished blend with classic aromas of cassis and spice leading to a structured palate with liquorice and blackberry flavours and enveloped by fine, lingering tannins.

Botmaskop 2021 has a recommended ageing potential of between 10 and 15 years. Over time, the wine develops in character, with beautiful tannins and rich aromas of autumn leaves and cedarwood.

The namesake of this wine is the historic mountain peak upon which Delaire Graff Estate is situated. Originally named Bootmanskop, meaning ‘Boat Man’s Peak’, the picturesque Botmaskop mountain, with its expansive views over the Cape Peninsula and the Atlantic Ocean, served as the lookout point for the Huguenots who had settled in nearby Franschhoek. From this vantage point, sailing ships entering Table Bay harbour 50 kilometres to the west were easily seen.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2021-ovilos-biblia-chora/">2021 Ovilos, Biblia Chora</a>

    2021 Ovilos, Biblia Chora

    £3750

Biblia Chora is one of the newest estates on the Greek scene.  Evangelos Geravassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsalis are two of the best white winemakers in Greece.  The vineyards are based in Kavala, the second-largest city in the north of Greece, where the excellent soil and microclimate provide long growing seasons. They make cutting edge, world-class wines.

This 2021 is a blend of 50% Semillon and 50% Assyrtiko grapes.   The distinctive and characteristic aromas of apricot and honey from the Semillon blend perfectly with the citrus and lemon notes from the Assyrtiko, with nuances of vanilla and nutty hints adding complexity. Elegant, with a creamy texture, this stylish wine is beautifully balanced by refreshing palate which leads to a long finish.

Located in the coastal region of Pangeon, Biblia Chora’s privately owned estate vineyard is situated at 380 metres altitude and extends over 78 hectares. With the striking Pangeon Mountain as the backdrop and the sea breeze coming from the Aegean Sea in front the estate, the vines thrive in this mild, Mediterranean climate which is characterised by mild winters and cool summers. The wide diurnal temperature range encourages a long, slow maturation of the grapes, concentrating the flavours in the berries. The vineyard is cultivated according to strict ecological agricultural standards in order to respect the environment and local flora and fauna.

2023 Old Vines Semillon From Patagonia, Matias Riccitelli

    £3900

This wine has all the seriousness, subtleness, elegance and nuances that old Semillon is capable of. Complex and elegant aromas of citrus, white flowers and vanilla lead to a perfectly balanced palate, with an elegant finish.

This Semillon was sourced from forgotten vines that are over 50 years old. These old vineyards are located in Río Negro in Patagonia, at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level on the 39° latitude south. Sunlight exposure is more intense than northern areas, but at this latitude the nights are much colder. This daily diurnal temperature range is excellent for the production of quality grapes; the nightly cooling-off extends the ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity.
