Laroche is a famous name in Chablis, with family history dating as far back as 1695. Michel Laroche is the patriarch of the family and after decades as the director of Domaine Laroche he decided in 2010 to sell his stake in this business, keeping the historic vineyards that he had inherited, and created a family domaine with his children Margaux and Romain and his wife Cécile, that would be called Le Domaine d’Henri, in homage to his father.
2021 Chablis 1er Cru L’Homme Mort Vieilles Vignes is made from 50+-year-old vines in the Fourchame region of Chablis and specifically from L’Homme Mort (Dead Man)- named after a cemetery was found nearby containing Merovingian skeletons.
The wine is balanced, fine, and delicate with a nose of lemongrass along with the classic Fourchaume lavender. The taste of the wine is intense, round, and full. It reveals tones of ripe fruit, citrus touches, especially the nuances of lime, stand out brightly. The beautiful creamy texture of the wine emphasizes the mineral nuances. The finish is long-lasting and sophisticated.
