A classic since 1950, Parallèle 45 is celebrated around the globe and is one of France’s most recognizable wines. Parallèle 45 is named after the 45th parallel, a famous circle of latitude that marks the midpoint between the equator and the North Pole. It also passes over the cellars of Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

The Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Marsanne grapes for Parallèle 45 Blanc are farmed organically.   The wine has mouthwatering aromas of apricot, citrus, and white floral notes, leading to a full-bodied palate balanced by exquisite freshness through to a delicate, fruity finish.

2023 ‘Amfora’ Orange Wine, Villa Noria

    £2295

An aromatic orange wine with delicate floral notes of rose, quince and apple. The palate is fresh, fruity and harmonious, finishing with a little grip, leaving an impression of pleasant tension.

The grapes for the Amfòra cuvée come from vineyards between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountainous foothills. The Mediterranean climate, with its warm, dry summers and relatively mild winters, offers the vines excellent conditions in which to flourish. The high number of sunshine hours results in wines that are powerful, rich and aromatic, but also fresh due to the tempering effects of the Mediterranean Sea. The soils are made up mostly of clay-limestone and basaltic soil; the latter is a volcanic soil formed from ancient lava, which contains high proportions of iron and imparts a distinctive minerality to the wine. The vineyard is certified organic and HVE Level 3 certified for sustainability. The vines are surrounded by hedges to protect them from pesticide treatments in the neighbouring fields and also to provide a refuge for the wildlife, enhancing biodiversity. Harvested in the cool of the night to retain freshness and at high ripeness levels to avoid any green flavours or bitterness.

    2022 M by Saint-Maur Rose, Château Saint-Maur

    £2350

Located in the southernmost part of Côtes de Provence, Château Saint-Maur benefits from a unique terroir. Nestled between the foothills of the stunning Massif des Maures mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea, this picturesque estate is just 10 km from Saint-Tropez. The oak tree-covered hillsides of Cogolin provide the ideal setting for cultivating grapes that yield iconic, pale pink, Provencal rosé wines.

This shimmering salmon pink rosé offers a delightful expression of Provence’s terroir.   In the glass, it opens with profound scents of strawberries and raspberries, hints of citrus, and herbaceous undertones. On the palate, it is crisp, indulgent, and sophisticated. This wine boasts a lively acidity, a delightful mouthfeel, and a graceful finish with a subtle lemon zest.

It is a fabulous food wine and pairs marvellously with meats (veal roulade with herbs and parmesan, lemon chicken), vegetables, (stuffed, Thai stir-fry), fish (salmon tartare, spaghetti alle vongole) or cheese and dessert (fresh goat’s cheese and redcurrant jelly, strawberry tart).

2023 Châteauneuf du Pape La Solitude Blanc, Domaine de la Solitude

    £4250

This 2023 vintage is an example of an exceptional white Châteauneuf.  In the glass it opens with lovely floral and citrus aromas followed by flavours of baked apple and apricot with lovely nutty, toasty tones on the palate.  Textured, rich and complex.

This historic cuvée of the Estate, produced since the 17th century, is a blend of different soils and varietals situated on the coolest terroirs. The Grenache Blanc grapes come from the “La Crau” plateau, while the Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Picpoul varietals are grown in the “Vallon de la Solitude”. The Roussanne and Grenache Blanc grapes are fermented and aged in barrels on fine lees while the other varietals mature in vats to retain all their freshness.

This domain has one of the best terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its abundance of rounded quartzite stones from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity.

2010 Cuvee Barberini Blanc, Domaine de la Solitude

    £4950

White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the rarest and most prestigious wines in France. For most people, Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley means red wine. This is understandable because only 7% of the wines are white.

This cuvée is a tribute to the founding fathers of the Estate. It is made with Roussanne grapes, picked the moment that they take on their golden colour, associated with Grenache Blanc and Clairette grapes. The Roussanne harvest is fermented in new barrels and the Grenache and Clairette grapes in vats. This wine is aged for 8 months on fine lees before being blended. It is an opulent wine due to the large proportion of Roussanne, but it also has beautiful freshness thanks to the Clairette. It can be enjoyed between 1 and 8 years after the harvest, or even kept for longer by those who appreciate mature wines.
