This  2008 which offers a rich, complex and lanoline-centred style after spending extended time on the lees.

This three-generations Domaine is composed of 24 hectares of vines split up into 50 little parcels. All the vines of the Domain are planted on a limestone-clay soil which rests on a sub-layer of tuffeau, the elegant stone used to build the châteaux for which the region is so renowned.

There is a lovely rich yeasty, brioche note on the bouquet that we love. The wine was aged in barriques and gives a depth and weight to the wine that is delicious. A creaminess lingers on the finish. Just love it – move over Champagne.

  • 2020 Sancerre, Domaine Serge LaloueWhite Wine

    2020 Sancerre, Domaine Serge Laloue

    £2195

Serge Laloue has always been one of our favourite winemakers in the Loire, making incredible Sancerre.

This is a fresh and lively Sancerre, offering pure aromas of citrus fruit and white pear with delicate elderflower nuances. Crisp and elegant, with beautiful mineral tension on the palate through to a zesty, mouthwatering finish.

The estate covers 20 hectares in the heart of Sancerre, mostly surrounding the village of Thauvenay. The grapes come from 11-hectares of vines, which are planted with a south-easterly exposure and have an average age of 30 to 35 years. There are three main soil types in this vineyard: calcareous clay, which are cool soils with high limestone content, imparting finesse and elegance; siliceous clay which includes a flinty component imparting mineral notes, and sandy clay, which brings complexity to the wine. The vineyard is currently in conversion to organic status, a natural progression for the Laloue family as the farming methods used over many years have followed these principles. Vineyard management techniques include ploughing the soil instead of using herbicides, growing cover crops between the rows of vines and sexual confusion of predators, to maintain the health of the vines and the biodiversity of the environment.

  • 2020 Pouilly Fume, Chateau de TracyWhite Wine

2020 Pouilly Fume, Chateau de Tracy

    £2550

The vineyards of Pouilly Fumé make some of the best Sauvignons in the world, and for many Chateau de Tracy produce the best.   The 2019 Pouilly Fumé is a classic showcasing an expressive nose with notes of lemongrass green pepper and elderflower, complemented by tropical notes of mango, passionfruit and an underlying citrus frame. The palate is tangy and fresh with a lovely richness echoing the fruit flavours found on the nose. Very elegant with a long, complex finish.

…the sauvignon blanc of Château de Tracy is among my favourites in Pouilly-Fumé, the Loire, the world … a wine of evanescent, verdant, spirit-lifting charm.  David Williams, The Guardian, 5th April 2020

The vineyard is located in Tracy sur Loire, on the slopes overlooking the Loire River. The 29-year-old vines are planted with a south-westerly orientation to provide the maximum exposure to the sun. The clayey flint soil imparts an assertive character to the wines; they are powerful and distinct, while the calcareous Kimmeridgian subsoil produces rich, elegant wines with complex aromas. The vineyard is managed using sustainable practices, such as leaf thinning, grass ploughing and the use of butterfly lures to reduce the number of chemical treatments required. The ecological system in the vineyard is meticulously considered and practices such as intensifying the organic life in the soil and promoting synergies with the biotope of the soil, leads to the ultimate goal of producing more healthy, balanced and aromatic grapes.
