From 100% estate fruit and fermented in stainless steel, this is an excellent example of modern Chilean winemaking. Flavours of fresh plum, damson and a hint of chocolate make this an excellent match with a variety of red meat.

The Sanama wines come from vineyards in Requinoa, located on the generous alluvial soils of the Cachapoal Andes Valley. They are protected from the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean by the coastal mountains, but the influence of the Andes ensures warm days and cool nights. This provides ideal ripening conditions for the grapes, resulting in ripe tannins and attractive perfumes.

Expressive and well-defined aromas of red berries, rosemary, and a touch of liquorice are echoed on the palate. Fresh, with a rounded texture and excellent persistence on the palate, through to a satisfyingly dry finish.

The grapes are grown in high-altitude vineyards in the northernmost part of Central Castile, where the continental climate enjoys sunny days and cool nights. This diurnal temperature difference encourages grapes with intense fruit and excellent varietal definition, which retaining remarkable freshness. The vineyards are sustainably managed and organically farmed as part of an integrated ecosystem. Low annual rainfall results in low disease pressure, enabling the vines to be grown without the aid of fungicides. Fertilisers have never been used, only organic manure is applied and weed control is managed by a low, superficial tilling. Rainwater is collected in a small reservoir and is used for drip irrigation in the case of extreme drought.

2020 Carmenère, Château Los Boldos

Carmenère has become one of the emblematic red wines of Chile. This red variety disappeared from European vineyards during the middle of the 19th century and reappeared among the Merlot varieties in Chile a hundred years later. Chile has become its global refuge, its warm valleys, world-class terroir and the fact that its dry climate during the months of maturation has enabled this late-ripening grape to flourish.

This 2020 Carmenère has aromas of raspberry, plum and redcurrant are underpinned by a subtle pepper note. A hint of chocolate comes through after a swirl in the glass. The palate has a rounded texture with powerful tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Zibibbo, as it is known locally in Sicily, is the synonym for Muscat of Alexandria. It produces highly aromatic wines and is the local’s pride and joy. The grapes undergo a sensory analysis and are hand-harvested at the optimum maturity levels, according to the terroir and microclimate of the vineyard. They are then harvested into 20-kilogram containers, to prevent the grapes from being prematurely crushed. The vineyards are made up of distinct soil and climate conditions and range from sea-level up to 700 metres above sea level, imparting subtle complexity into the wine.

2019 `Hécula` Organic Monastrell, Bodega Castano

A Monastrell from 50 year-old-vines, Hecula is a deep, alluring purple in the glass, boasting aromas of blueberry, wild raspberry, and liquorice with hints of violet and allspice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with an inviting richness. Notes of toasted cedar and nutmeg are neatly integrated with red berry fruit. Silky mouthfeel and soft, ripe tannins are balanced by the wine’s juicy acidity.

This wine is from Las Gruesas and Pozuelo vineyards which are situated at an altitude 750 metres above sea level. This area has a very different microclimate from the rest of the region which is clearly continental. It has minimum temperatures of -10°C in winter and up to 42°C in summer. The area is prone to infrequent but heavy spells of rain. The average age of the vines is 50 years old and the density is 1,600 vines per hectare. Soils are a mix of sandstone and limestone.

Fruit for the Chianti Mediceo is sourced by Alberto Antonini from the wider Chianti area, with a large portion of the blend coming from the hills around Florence.

The wine is deep ruby in colour. On the nose, it has bright cherry fruit aromas combined with hints of chocolate and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, the fruit is supported by fine-grain tannins. The finish is savoury with a hint of minerality.

Pays d’Oc is an ocean of vineyards bathed in sunshine in the south of France, between the heath and a beautiful blue where the atmosphere is unique. It is in this wild setting that this Maris Vermentino is made from organic grapes grown in an environment promoting biodiversity and sustainability.

In the glass it opens with floral notes of hawthorn and lime. Elegant on the palate, it is both round and refreshing.
