  • 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Reserva, Viña EcheverríaWhite Wine

2019 Sauvignon Blanc Reserva, Viña Echeverría

    £995

This vibrant and pristine Sauvignon Blanc combines grassy aromas of fresh herbs and green pepper, with citrus notes of grapefruit and lime. The palate is fresh and crisp, with lovely balance and a fruity finish.

The vineyard for this wine’s fruit is located in Molina in the Curicó Valley at an altitude of 243 metres. It is situated on the 35th Parallel South, between the Andes Mountains and the cool Pacific Ocean. The warm dry days and cold nights encourage a long growing season. Intense sunshine is tempered by cooling sea breezes, allowing the grapes to achieve outstanding fruit aromas and exceptional colour concentration. Working with a model of micro viticulture, each plot, of no more than half a hectare, is identified according to its terroir and microclimate and planted accordingly. Grapes are subjected to specific pruning, irrigation, canopy management and harvesting, which results in grapes of optimum quality and flavour.

This effect extends the ripening period, ensuring slow ripening and the development of intense and very fresh flavours and aromas. Average rainfall in the Leyda Valley is 250 millimetres. The soil is finely textured and of low fertility. The upper layer is thin loamy clay, with a layer of cracked clay over decomposed granite, which has a varied mineral structure. • 2020 Valencay, Sebastian VaillantWhite Wine

    2020 Valencay, Sebastian Vaillant

    £1450

A great example of this unusual appellation of just 100 or so hectares, which was only granted AC status in 2002. Unlike most of the Loire’s better-known regions, several different varieties (white and red) are permitted here, with Sebastien Vaillant (who first honed his skills in nearby Quincy) using a sizeable proportion of Chardonnay to flesh out his Sauvignon Blanc. The Domaine has 24 hectares mostly on the same clay and flint soils which extend eastwards to Pouilly-Fume and Sancerre, although the Chardonnay is grown on sandier lime soils.

Located in Sauternes, on one of the greatest white wine terroirs in France. This wine has an enamouring yellow colour, with green reflections. The nose is aromatically complex revealing fragrances of exotic white fruits, citrus aromas and subtle floral notes. The nose is the perfect antecedent to what is tasted. There are touches of fresh lemons and exotic fruits (mangoes, lychees). The salinity of Lune d’Argent 2015 is noticed thanks to the finish. This wine is a clever companionship between the concentration of white fruits flavours and a refreshing minerality.  An incredible wine for the money.
