  • 2019 ‘6ème Sens Rouge’, Gerard BertrandRed Wine

2019 ‘6ème Sens Rouge’, Gerard Bertrand

    £1195

Aromas of ripe red fruit aromas and a touch of spice lead to a smooth palate of blackcurrant, fresh red fruits and vanilla nuances. The tannins are fine and silky and contribute to the balance of this eminently quaffable wine.

The contrasted region of the Languedoc Roussillon produces fruity wines which represent the exceptional diversity of terroirs. The grapes for the 6ème Sens Rouge are grown in the foothills of the Corbières and Minervois. Here, the sunny climate and proximity to the Mediterranean, offer the ideal landscape for vine growing.

  • 2019 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux SuperiorRed Wine

    2019 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux Superior

    £1300

Château Bellecroix has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800s. It was purchased in the 1970s by the owner of Château Haut Calens, Albert Yung. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the clay and gravel soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet. The 35 acres of vines average 25 years of age and yield healthy, richly flavoured grapes. This wine from the superb 2015 vintage is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a silky-textured, medium-bodied Bordeaux with blackcurrants, black cherry, violets and a hint of cedar box. Finely balanced by lively acidity and smooth tannins.

2019 ‘Bull Ant’ Cabernet Merlot, Lake Breeze

  • 2020 Château de l’Ou ‘I Love L’Ou’, Château de l’OuRed Wine

    2020 Château de l’Ou ‘I Love L’Ou’, Château de l’Ou

    £1595

The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea and are surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain-freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which balance the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness. The vineyard is certified organic.

  • 2013 ‘Coleccion’ DO Yecla, Bodega CastanoRed Wine

2013 ‘Coleccion’ DO Yecla, Bodega Castano

    £1695

The Castaño family owns over 410 hectares of vineyards in the Yecla DO in south-eastern Spain. 80% of these vineyards are planted with the native Monastrell variety. For several generations, Bodegas Castaño has been a pioneer in this region and has come to symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude, resulting in wines of great character and finesse.

The grapes for the 2013 ‘Coleccion’ were harvested from 70-year-old Monastrell vines and 32-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, planted at 750 metres above sea level.  Dark and intense in colour, this wine is complex on the nose, with ripe black fruit aromas, notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. Soft on the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet delicate, with marked but elegant sweet tannins, and a long finish.

  • 2020 Mongrana, Querciabella

    2020 Mongrana, Querciabella

    £1795

Mongrana is the quintessential expression of the colours, sights and sounds of the Maremma region: fruity and intense, fresh and embracing, the wine takes its name – and its character – from that of the noble family of knights depicted by the Italian Renaissance poet Ludovico Ariosto in his epic masterpiece Orlando Furioso.

The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry jump out of the glass, anticipating a complex bouquet of kirsch, ivy, and pine needles, enriched by a touch of liquorice.

On the palate, it offers a juicy, fresh sip with soft tannins. The long finale is savoury, with a mineral note that persists in the mouth.

  • 2017 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Berton VineyardRed Wine

2017 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Berton Vineyard

    £1895

The Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet has an impenetrable black colour with a vibrant garnet hue. The aromas are powerful and complex with a wealth of fruit ranging from ripe blackcurrant and blackberries with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. The rich and harmonious palate displays abundant flavours of prune, plum jam and mint, underpinned by fine toasty French oak and defined by a soft yet dense tannin profile.

The grapes come from two parcels of fruit within the same vineyard, in the prized Terra Rossa region of Coonawarra. One block is on a slightly more elevated area of the vineyard, which produces more subtle fruit characters. The warm days are moderated by off-shore breezes and the rich red loam over free draining limestone soil is the foundation for the Coonawarra’s justified reputation for producing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

  • 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, TahbilkRed Wine

    2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Tahbilk

    £1950

In the glass, this wine offers up red to black currant scents infused with black olive and dried herbs followed by some earthy tobacco and stalky cedar notes. Medium-bodied the palate has an even spread of blackcurrant and liquorice fruit underscored by toasty cedar, earth, subtle black olive and spicy dried herbs. Fine-grained tannins with a lingering conclusion. Matured in large and small oak barrels

Tahbilk’s vineyards are grouped along the banks of the Goulburn River, a branch of it which flows through the estate. The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which varies from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.
