    Château Bellecroix has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800s. It was purchased in the 1970s by the owner of Château Haut Calens, Albert Yung. Albert has since embarked upon a programme of modernising the entire estate, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the winery and cellars. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the clay and gravel soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet. The 35 acres of vines average 25 years of age and yield healthy, richly flavoured grapes. This wine from the superb 2015 vintage is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a silky-textured, medium-bodied Bordeaux with blackcurrants, black cherry, violets and a hint of cedar box. Finely balanced by lively acidity and smooth tannins.

    Dowie Doole’s Hooley Dooley Red is a delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Winemaker and owner, Chris Thomas explains that the name Hooley Dolley came about “as a solution for those who have trouble with our name; it’s what you say when you can’t pronounce Dowie Doole.”

    On the nose the Grenache characters of strawberries, cherry and boiled lollies jump out of the glass first, followed by the deeper, darker Shiraz fruit; plum, blackberries and spice.  All the fruit characters from the nose follow through onto the palate. The wine is fruit-driven, juicy and soft with a subtle, gentle tannin line giving the wine good structure and length.   Drink now to 2024

    This impressive 2017 McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon has a decent age to it already and  has lifted perfume characters, completed by a long fruit driven palate.  Flavours of blackcurrant, cedar and allspice abound.  For the price this is quality juice.

    The 2016 vintage saw almost perfect conditions in Bordeaux, with hot summer days and cool nights, allowing the fruit to ripen evenly while maintaining acidity.  In the glass this wine has a deep ruby-red colour, leading to an inviting bouquet of red plum, black cherry and blackcurrant, with hints of spice. The palate is concentrated and supple, with smooth tannins and layers of bright red fruit.

    Château des Antonins is located on the left bank of the Garonne, south of Graves. The red varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are planted on clay gravel soils, producing wines with powerful and pure fruit concentration.  All of the vineyards are managed sustainably and with the use of cover crops to avoid erosion and aerate the soils.

    An elegant, black-fruited wine with discreet notes of spicy, vanilla oak and wild sage. Opulent and textured with fine, smooth tannins and blackberry flavours that linger on the persistent finish.

    The Château is located in the town of Cars, in the appellation of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard is made up of south-facing plots on a plateau with clay-limestone soils and a terroir known locally as “gruppes”, which is formed of small, white pebbles. The vineyard is cultivated according to traditional and sustainable viticulture practices, with an emphasis on respecting the soil, the environment and the vine.  The soil under the vines is scattered with oats or barley to produce a green manure; insecticides are not used. The vineyard is in conversion to organic.

    The icon that started it all for Montes.  This Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby red in colour, with violet hues. There are intense notes of ripe red and black fruits, cherries in syrup, blackcurrants and a stewed fruit character. Notes of black pepper, nutmeg, rich toast with a touch of tobacco intermingle with its fruity character. The palate is well-balanced with round tannins, good structure and a long, elegant finish.

    The grapes come from Montes’ vineyards in Apalta and Marchigüe. The sites are irrigated via a ‘Sustainable Dry Farmed’ system which allows for precise and minimal irrigating, reducing their water footprint by 65%. In Apalta, vines are planted on 45° slopes, providing good exposure for ripeness. Low night-time temperatures moderate this warm area, ensuring the grapes ripen steadily and thus preserving good levels of natural acidity. Marchigüe is cooler and lies in the rain shadow of the Coastal Range, reducing the threat of fungal disease and resulting in consistently healthy harvests. All grapes were hand-harvested.

To the east are the Arrabida hills and to the west the Alentejo province’s clays. The unique soil here is named “Pliocenico de Pegões”. It is a sandy soil formed over millions of years by sand transported by the rivers Tagus and Sado. It is this Mediterranean climate and soil combination that creates this unique Pegões terroir.

    2016 The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon d’Arenberg


    This wine has a seductive nose, with lifted cassis and blueberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, showing mulberry, black cherry and sage. There’s nice fruit intensity, with vibrant acidity and plenty of spice. The finish is long and mouth-watering.

    The vineyard for this wine was planted in the 19th century and received its nickname as it was the first in the region to be trained above knee height. Over the past four decades, Cabernet Sauvignon from the High Trellis vineyard has been released under the d’Arenberg label to consistent critical acclaim and won the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy at the 1969 Melbourne Wine Show.
