‘Alta No. 10’ Ten-Year-Old Tawny Port, Quinta da Pedra Alta
£2600Add to BasketAlta No.10 is an elegant, luscious, complex Tawny Port made in traditional granite lagars and aged in old casks.
This is the first Ten-Year-Old produced on the estate and is a fitting tribute to the positive impact João has had on the estate since he started in 2009.
As with all ports, blending is the key, and Pedra Alta uses a variety of aged parcels with different levels of sweetness and acidity, including a small proportion of some really old barrels (at least 40 years old). The aim is to deliver an elegant, complex Ten-Year-Old Tawny style where the sweetness takes a back seat, and the Pedra Alta acidity provides the focus.
Serve slightly chilled as an aperitif and as a perfect accompaniment to chocolate desserts or strong cheese.
Perfect to drink now, but will gain further complexity over the next 20+ years.

1998 Colheita Port, Barros
£6800Add to BasketHaving celebrated their 100th year of trading in 2013, Barros Port is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious companies producing and trading in Port. Much of their success comes from Colheita Ports – old Tawnies from a single year matured in cask for a minimum period of seven years. Their expertise in Colheita Ports has established them as the stand out producer of this style. Barros leaves their Colheita Ports to mature in cask until being hand bottled to order. The loss of wine from evaporation (known as the ‘Angel’s Share’) is much higher in comparison to bottle ageing. It is a sacrifice they are willing to make and one that helps them achieve unsurpassed quality in their Colheita wines.
This 1998 Colheita is exceptional. In the glass, it has bright brown-tawny colour with slight reflexes of red. The wine reveals a rich and elegant nose, combining the dried fruits aromas with the aromatic wood notes. Soft and silky in the taste, full of ripe figs and sweet flavours. A sensation of depth, in an elegant and distinctive style. Exceptional.
