  Valli Vineyards, established in 1998 by pioneering winemaker Grant Taylor, is renowned for crafting single-vineyard wines that express the unique terroirs of Central Otago. The Bannockburn Vineyard, located in the Cromwell Basin, benefits from a warmer, semi-continental climate and deep, free-draining loess soils over gravelly schist. These conditions yield Pinot Noirs of depth, structure, and longevity. Since 2015, winemaker Jen Parr has collaborated with Taylor, bringing a shared commitment to producing wines that embody honesty, integrity, and a true sense of place.

  The 2022 Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir exhibits a bright garnet hue and a lifted bouquet of dried florals, wild thyme, Otago cherry, mulberry, and nuances of new leather. On the palate, it offers a harmonious blend of forest fruits and lush florals, underpinned by an intriguing flinty note. The wine’s finely textured structure builds gracefully, culminating in a persistent and captivating finish. Great now and will continue to evolve over the next 15 years.

Grant is a four-time winner of the prestigious International Winemaker of the Year award at the IWC in London.  He has been instrumental in shaping Central Otago’s global Pinot Noir reputation over the last 4 decades.  Since 2015, winemaker Jen Parr has collaborated with Taylor, bringing a shared commitment to producing wines that embody honesty, integrity, and a true sense of place.

  The Gibbston vineyard, Valli’s original site, is located in the coolest and highest sub-region of Central Otago, known for producing wines of elegance, vibrancy, and aromatic complexity. Under the guidance of Taylor and winemaker Jen Parr (NZ Winemaker of the Year 2020), Valli continues to craft wines that embody purity, precision, and place.

  In the glass, the 2022 Valli Gibbston Pinot Noir is a captivating expression of this alpine sub-region. Aromatically intricate, it opens with an evocative mix of wild thyme, rosemary, fennel, and earthy mushroom, harmoniously intertwined with bright notes of dark cherry, ripe strawberry, and dried rose petals. On the palate, the wine is refined and focused, offering a compact yet layered structure that flows gracefully, akin to a mountain river in spring. Fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide drive and tension, while the hallmark Gibbston perfume lingers beautifully on the finish. It shimmers in the glass with a translucent garnet hue, inviting you into a beguiling bouquet of wild strawberry, pomegranate, and pink pomelo, delicately threaded with wild thyme, cedar, and a smoky hint of gunflint. The palate is equally compelling, with layers of cardamom, allspice, damson plum, tart cherry, and fresh strawberry unfurling in seamless succession. Sleek and finely tuned, the wine’s lithe frame is supported by silky tannins and a bright, mineral-driven acidity that leads to a long, savoury finish marked by a signature saline lift.
