  Fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques. In the glass aromas of nectarine and ripe pear are interwoven with dried honey, light citrusy nougat and spice notes rise.  Mid weighted and texturally rounded, the palate features nectarine and grapefruit flavours over a back drop of dried honey, citrus and lightly spiced nougat. Finishes nice and fresh with an elegant medium to long aftertaste.

Unfolding across the palate are intense lime and citrus flavours backed by a steely mineral infused core. Subtle orange rind and crunchy green apple elements are also apparent.   The grapes are sourced exclusively from Lake Chalice’s 11-hectare Eyrie Vineyard, which is located in the lower Waihopai Valley. The fruit is a hand-picked selection of clone 115 Pinot Noir. The 15-year-old vines are pruned to two canes, and the yields are carefully monitored, resulting in an intense fruit expression in the grapes. The high clay content in the soil profile is well suited to bringing out the best in the Pinot Noir variety.

   The Astrolabe Marlborough Chardonnay is made from grapes grown at Astrolabe Farm Vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley, Wrekin Vineyard in the Southern Valleys and Dashwood Corner in the Awatere Valley.

  In the glass, this wine has aromas of ripe melon and dried stone fruits with vanilla and butter notes and a subtle mealiness.  The palate has a very elegant texture with stone fruit, vanilla creaminess, pleasing weight and a long, dry and mineral finish.  This wine is already drinking well, but it

  A complex wine full of finesse, with fruity notes of blackberry, cherry and liquorice enveloped in exquisitely integrated oak. A full-bodied palate with ripe tannins finishes with textured, long-lasting depth.

  The grapes come from six villages in the Ribera del Duero, from vines with an average age of 30 years old. Each plot has a different soil structure which imparts complexity in the resulting wine. The vines are carefully tended throughout the year, with patience, specialised craftsmanship and manual work. Emphasis is placed on keeping the vine healthy, with winter pruning, bunch thinning and shoot thinning all taking place to capture the personality of the terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum maturity. They follow a philosophy of keeping yields low and strive to keep the soils healthy, which allows the grapes to fully express the characteristics of their terroir.

  2021/22 Kekerengu Coast Sauvignon Blanc, Astrolabe

  The story of the Kēkerengū Coast Sauvignon Blanc is really defined by where it is: outside of the typical bounds of Marlborough. It is grown on limestone soils, which are not seen in the Wairau or Awatere Valleys. Kēkerengū is a narrow stretch between sea and mountain, and its extreme maritime climate has a profound influence on the wine, with an early budburst and late harvest. This combination of different soil and climate from the rest of Marlborough gives a very unique expression of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

  This 2021 vintage is dry, bone dry.  Wafting from the glass are aromas of citrus pith, lime and grapefruit zest and hints of jasmine tea, fennel and basil.  The palate is intense with flinty, almost salty notes and passionfruit flavours.  It has a lovely briny, salty, savoury finish which speaks a bit about the sea nearby. It’s a great wine with oysters on the half shell, and it’s a wine that really appeals to a lot of people around the world that would normally profess not to be huge Marlborough Sauvignon drinkers and may have more European drinking sensibilities.    Will develop in the bottle – drink now to 2028
