  • 2021 Rosso di Montalcino ‘Ignaccio’, Il Marroneto Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

2021 Rosso di Montalcino ‘Ignaccio’, Il Marroneto

    £4950

Il Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello’s traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it’s clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Montalcino fans worldwide.

Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.

Both the Brunello and the Rosso start their life back at the winery as Brunellos, but during their maturation journey, Alessandro will make the decision to ‘declassify’ several bottis, resulting in a small release of Rosso di Montalcino. Prior to fermentation, the grapes spend around 2 days in steel with regular stirring followed by a slow fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks. The fruit is moved into large Slavonian and French Botti for 24 months then racked off and left to settle in steel for a brief period before bottling and release into the market.

  • 2020 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido Red Wine

    2020 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido

    £5000

Sassicaia’s younger brother Guidalberto consistently offers incredible value from the Tenuta San Guido stable.   Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta, Tenuta San Guido’s owner, explains how Guidalberto came into being: “first of all, [there was] the desire to see what we could accomplish with Merlot, a grape that we had never used before; second, the desire to offer the consumer a wine which could be appreciated at a younger age compared to our veteran Sassicaia”.

The 2020 Guidalberto has an increased percentage of Merlot (60%) that brings added freshness to a wine that is in great shape for one so young. This the 21st vintage of Guidalberto has a profound nose that offers ripe, fragrant fruit and sweet spice. • Cuvée Royale Rose(Gift Box), Champagne Joseph Perrier Champagne & Sparkling Wine

Cuvée Royale Rose(Gift Box), Champagne Joseph Perrier

    £5495

Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Brut Rosé is a sophisticated champagne made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier grapes. It has a lovely salmon pink colour with a fine and persistent perlage. The nose is complex and intense, with aromas of red berries, strawberries, and raspberries, followed by hints of flowers and spices. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with a perfect balance between fruitiness, acidity, and creamy texture. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a pleasant and refreshing sensation. This champagne is ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, sushi, or light desserts.

‘Aged on the lees for 3-to-5 years in cellars dug out of ancient Gallo-Roman chalk pits, this rosé Champagne is serious, and seriously delicious. Displaying a medium ‘vieux rose’ hue and narrow cordon, the wine exudes summer pudding fruits and fresh bread notes. On the palate, the wine shows finesse in its light body, zippy acidity and ‘crackling’ mousse texture. Nicely balanced with good length. Quite vinous, this wine is a lovely aperitif but will also work well with wild salmon or even light desserts.’ Patricia Stefanowicz MW

  • MV ‘#Zodo’, Sugrue Champagne & Sparkling Wine, English & Welsh Sparkling Wine, Sparkling

    MV ‘#Zodo’, Sugrue

    £5995

Made without additional dosage ‘#Zodo’ is a sublime expression of English sparkling wine. Aromas of Granny Smith apple and crushed stone lead to a beautifully balanced palate with vibrant acidity, fine weight and a twist of lemon on the finish.

This wine has been produced from Multiple Vintages, (MV). The fruit comes predominantly from the 2014 vintage, but also contains reserve wines from the 2009 and 2011 vintages.

80% of the grapes came from the exceptional Mount Harry Vineyard near Lewes, in East Sussex, which sits at 70 metres above sea-level. 20% of the fruit is sourced from the Storrington Priory Vineyard, located at 50 metres above sea-level. Both of the vineyards are located in Sussex, above the 50th parallel and are influenced by a cool coastal climate. Planted in 2006, the vineyards have east and south-easterly aspects encouraging the maximum exposure to the sun, assisting ripening in this capricious climate. The Storrington Priory vineyard consists of greensand soils which impart rounder, fruit profile in the resulting wine. The Mount Harry vineyard is made up of clay loam over pure chalk soils, without flint, which provide superior drainage for the vines, as well as imparting great elegance and finesse to the wines.

  • 2016 ‘Ex Machina 2016’ Sparkling Rosé, Sugrue South Downs Champagne & Sparkling Wine, English & Welsh Sparkling Wine, Sparkling

2016 ‘Ex Machina 2016’ Sparkling Rosé, Sugrue South Downs

    £5995

Sugrue South Downs is the personal project of celebrated English sparkling winemaker Dermot Sugrue.  His highly acclaimed and multi-award-winning sparkling wine ‘The Trouble with Dreams’ is stuff of legend and we think the best sparkling wine in the UK.

This his Sugrues very first rosé, a wine named “Rosé ex Machina” because of its serendipitous conception: 2016 was so fine in quality yet so meagre in quantity that Dermot had decided to make just one wine, putting all of his fruit into the prestige “Cuvée Dr Brendan O’Regan”. Then, just as the harvest was coming to an end and in Dermot’s own words, “the God’s intervened” and he was offered some outstanding fruit from the beautiful Jenkyn Place Vineyard in Hampshire.   From these grapes “Rosé ex Machina” was born.

Just 4,500 bottles and 200 magnums were produced.

  • 1998 Colheita Port, Barros Port, Port & Dessert Wine

    1998 Colheita Port, Barros

    £6800

Having celebrated their 100th year of trading in 2013, Barros Port is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious companies producing and trading in Port. Much of their success comes from Colheita Ports – old Tawnies from a single year matured in cask for a minimum period of seven years. Their expertise in Colheita Ports has established them as the stand out producer of this style. Barros leaves their Colheita Ports to mature in cask until being hand bottled to order. The loss of wine from evaporation (known as the ‘Angel’s Share’) is much higher in comparison to bottle ageing. It is a sacrifice they are willing to make and one that helps them achieve unsurpassed quality in their Colheita wines.

This 1998 Colheita is exceptional.  In the glass, it has bright brown-tawny colour with slight reflexes of red. The wine reveals a rich and elegant nose, combining the dried fruits aromas with the aromatic wood notes. Soft and silky in the taste, full of ripe figs and sweet flavours. A sensation of depth, in an elegant and distinctive style.  Exceptional.
