2023 Sancerre, J. de Villebois
£2795Add to BasketA textured and richly flavoured Sancerre with intense herbaceous, gooseberry and citrus aromas, beautifully balanced by a vibrant and refreshing crisp palate.
The Sancerre appellation in Central France surrounds the eponymous town, which sits atop a hill overlooking the River Loire. The grapes for this cuvée are grown in vineyards which are located on these hilly slopes and are planted across the three main soil types of Sancerre. Les Caillottes, which is made up of a high proportion of stony fragments of coarse Kimmeridgian limestone upon a clay subsoil and the wines from these soils impart aromatic structure and freshness; Les Terres Blanches which are made up of Kimmeridgian marl and is extremely rich in fossilised shellfish and has the distinctive characteristic of turning white when it dries, hence its local name, which translates as ‘white earth’. These wines from this soil offer complexity, opulence and great aromatic finesse. Finally the flinty Silex soils which impart minerality; all three soils types have the common thread of a high proportion of clay.

2023 Pouilly-Fumé, J. de Villebois
£2795Add to BasketThe subtle combination of smoky and ripe fruit aromas preludes a palate of candied pineapple, peach and mango flavours. Elegant and fresh, with the characteristic smoky note of a great Pouilly Fumé.
Pouilly-Fumé is the Sauvignon Blanc appellation located on the Right Bank of the Loire River. The appellation was created in 1937 originally as Blanc Fumé de Pouilly. Pouilly- Fumé takes its name from Pouilly-sur-Loire, the village from which the wines originate; while ‘Fume’ refers to Blanc Fumé, the local synonym for Sauvignon Blanc. Fumé translates as ‘smoky’, which denotes the struck gunflint notes that characterise the wines. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes that produced this cuvée are grown on the main Pouilly Fumé terroirs of Villiers and Barrois, where the soils are made up of limestone, marls with oyster shells and clayey-flint ‘Silex’ soils. It is these flinty ‘Silex’ soils, which impart the characteristic smoky flavours in the wine.

2021 Viognier ‘Age of Grace’, Lismore
£2800Add to BasketLismore Estate is based in Greyton within the Overberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa. It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines.
This Viognier is a reflection of Samantha’s obsession with how the special soil, climate and a mysterious sense of place come together to produce an extraordinary wine that tells you its story. The vines are grown on rose-quartz soils in Elgin, which is a cool, high altitude plateau. The region offers a lengthened ripening period which brings the grapes late into the season, often three to four weeks later than traditional wine-growing areas in South Africa. This provides the opportunity to develop deep complexity and concentration.
In the glass, the 2021 Age of Grace Viognier is an expressive wine that seduces you with beautiful perfumes of honeysuckle and orange blossom and a textured palate of apricot, kiwi and pineapple. 2020 Chianti Classico Organic, Querciabella
£2895Add to BasketQuerciabella Chianti Classico has been the centrepiece of Querciabella’s winemaking operations since the winery’s debut. Consistently ranking at the highest levels of critical acclaim it’s a real delight for wine and food enthusiasts all over the world.
A beautiful balancing act of crisp, inviting acidity, pure varietal fruit flavour and character, Querciabella Chianti Classico represents the pinnacle of high-altitude, perfectly exposed Sangiovese fruit. Its complexity and consistency derive from sourcing the grapes from top sites across the Classico region.
Each vineyard is cared for on a lot by lot basis to respect the essence of each site. The same focus and precision in the cellar, allow for natural winemaking with minimal intervention, that preserves the purity of the fruit. After about 14 months in fine-grained oak barrels, and regular racking, only the best lots make it to the final blend. Once bottled, the wine rests patiently for a few more months before release. This patient maturation adds a layer of softness and enhances the varietal fruit notes typical of quality Sangiovese.
Sangiovese practically screams for anything with tomato sauce and the natural pairing with Tuscan regional food is, of course, Pappa al Pomodoro. A heartier option is to pair this full-bodied wine with a dish that can stand up to its great structure and complexity like Spaghetti Bolognese.

2013 Alea Riesling, Grosset
£2950Add to BasketThe Alea Riesling comes from a narrow corridor of hard red rock with poor, orangey, red loam vineyard reminded Jeff of the great German rieslings that were not fully dry, he decided to take a very different approach to the creation of Alea. With moderate baumes, high acidity and low pH, the aim was to make a wine with a generous palate balanced by zippy natural acidity on the finish.
The 2013 Grosset Alea Riesling is delightfully floral with white flowers and a whisper of lemon blossom and fresh garden herbs. There are lime juice flavours, a hint of lemon and a beautifully balanced long generous palate that leads to a gentle grip and zingy dry finish. “The Alea has come of age” says Jeff. “This vintage is a fraction drier than previous releases and is wonderfully complex while remaining delicate and perfectly balanced. We put this down to equal measures of vineyard maturity and experience.”

£2950Add to BasketA stylish and traditionally styled Barolo, with expressive aromas of dried fruit, roses and tar. The deep fruits are layered with earthy minerality on the smooth and mouth-filling palate and sweet tannins weave through to a very long, elegant finish.
The name ‘Nebbiolo’ comes from one of two schools of thought: some believe as the harvest of Nebbiolo usually occurs in October, when foggy weather is common, it takes the name from ‘nebbia’ meaning ‘fog’; however, others believe the name is derived from the presence of ‘pruina’, a substance which gives the appearance of a foggy haze on the berry’s skin. The Nebbiolo vines are grown in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, where the climate is continental and is tempered by the Tanaro River and its tributaries. Grown in marl clay and sand soils, the late-ripening variety is usually harvested in early October.
