  • 2018 Avaton, Gerovassiliou Red Wine

    2018 Avaton, Gerovassiliou

    £2950

Avaton is a luscious blend of three Greek indigenous varietals, where ripe dark fruits combine with notes of raisin, coffee, cacao and a hint of spice. Perfumed and polished, this smooth, medium-bodied wine delivers sweet and sour notes of black plum, with depth and spice leading to a dry finish.  The grapes (Limnio, Mavrotragano and Mavroudi) are fermented in open oak casks, then aged 15 months in oak barrels.

At Ktima Gerovassiliou, the single, private 74-hectare vineyard is cultivated with great care and enthusiasm, which leads to constant research and experimentation with Greek and international varieties. New technological advances blend well with tradition throughout the vine growing and vinification processes to produce high-quality wines that carry all the distinct characteristics of the terroir of Epanomi. The climate in the region of Epanomi is Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers, tempered by sea breezes. The vineyard is surrounded on three sides by the sea, which is three kilometres away, while its west side faces the Thermaic Gulf, Mount Olympus and the beaches of Pieria. The vines are grown in soils which are mainly sandy with a few clayey substrates and calcareous rocks. It is rich in sea fossils, as the surrounding hilly area was formed by sea deposits.

  • 2022 Saint-Veran Les Terres Noires, Domaine Des Deux Roches White Wine

2022 Saint-Veran Les Terres Noires, Domaine Des Deux Roches

    £2950

Domaine des Deux Roches translates as ‘Estate of the Two Rocks’, a reference to the position of this wine estate between the two distinctive, rocky escarpments of Solutre and Vergisson, in the Maconnais area of southern Burgundy. Owners of the Domaine, Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray make this great Saint-Veran, a white that beats many Burgundies for sheer deliciousness.

Terres Noires is a single vineyard on the south side of the landmark rock of Solutré, where limestone soils mix with black decomposed rock. One-third of this Chardonnay is matured in oak barrels for four months and it is this careful use of oak that is key to the style. It has a lovely forward and expressive peachy fruit style. A medium oaked chardonnay with lemon and butter and a touch of honeysuckle on the nose. Soft and creamy with plenty of body and texture.

  • 2022 Chablis, Michel Gayot White Wine

    2022 Chablis, Michel Gayot

    £2950

A lively, suave and mineral Chablis with citrus, floral and herbaceous notes leading to a fresh and crisp palate with lovely weight and a flinty note on the finish.

The vines are grown in the heart of the Chablis appellation, where the climate is continental. The yields are carefully controlled to ensure the highest quality of fruit, by concentrating the flavours in the grapes. The vineyards are cultivated in the traditional manner in accordance with the appellation regulations, but also in order to respect the land and its environment and the biodiversity of the soil. The soils are predominantly Kimmeridgian, which comprise limestone and clay, from which the wines of Chablis draw their unique character, purity and minerality.

  • 2019 Primitivo di Manduria Riserva ‘Anniversario 62’, San Marzano Red Wine

2019 Primitivo di Manduria Riserva ‘Anniversario 62’, San Marzano

    £2995

This wine is made in honour of the 19 winemakers who founded “Cantine San Marzano” in 1962.  A long time has passed since then, yet their old vines still produce exceptional fruit.

This 2018 vintage has deep and complex flavours of prunes, black cherry jam, spice and tobacco that deliciously weave through the full-bodied palate with its velvety texture and long, complex finish of cocoa, coffee and vanilla bean.

The grapes come from the central area of D.O.P. “Primitivo di Manduria”, where they are grown in very old vineyards in San Marzano and Sava. They are planted at a density of 5,000 bush vines per hectare. The soil is mainly red with a fine texture and is generally calcareous with few emerging rocks. The renowned red hue of the soils is due to the presence of iron oxides. The climate is characterised by high temperatures all year round, very little rainfall and a wide diurnal temperature range, which has a positive influence on the quality of the grapes, concentrating the flavours in the berries.

2021 Omaka Reserve Pinot Noir, Saint Clair

    £3100

This vineyard site has been the foundation for some of Saint Clair’s finest wines. This is the vineyard where Saint Clair Family Estate first discovered the fruit to make their flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The Block One site was previously part of the Wairau flood plain and is renowned for its deep, highly fertile, free-draining soils, which have been built up over time and help to produce the intensity of flavour in the resulting wine. The vineyard has a flat profile and is situated approximately three metres above sea level. It is now protected from flooding by a stopbank. Located in a slightly cooler site than the majority of the Marlborough Valley, the vines have a slower annual ripening period.
