2024 Soave Classico ‘Cuvee XX’, Guerrieri Rizzardi

    £1595

The 2024 Soave Classico Cuvée XX by Guerrieri Rizzardi is a refined white wine that pays tribute to the estate’s 20th-century legacy, as denoted by the “XX” in its name. This cuvée is crafted from select grapes grown in two esteemed cru vineyards—Costeggiola and Ferra—situated on the hills of Cavaion and Bardolino within the Soave Classico DOP area. These vineyards feature soils rich in limestone and volcanic subsoil, contributing to the wine’s distinctive character.

In the glass, the wine exhibits a brilliant straw-yellow hue with greenish reflections. The nose reveals delicate floral aromas intertwined with notes of fresh yellow fruit, such as pear and green apple, accompanied by subtle hints of citrus and white flowers. On the palate, it is dry, precise, and expressive, showcasing a lively freshness and a well-defined mineral backbone that reflects its terroir. The wine’s light body is balanced by a good density of fruit, leading to a refreshing and persistent finish.

The blend comprises 70% Garganega, 30% Chardonnay, and 5%. Fermentation occurs in thermo-conditioned concrete vats at controlled temperatures, followed by maturation on fine lees for three months in concrete and stainless steel tanks. This process enhances the wine’s texture and complexity without the influence of oak.

2018 Chardonnay Costa & Pampa, Trapiche

It is fresh in the mouth with a marked mineral presence and a long and unctuous finish.

Described by Decanter Magazine as ‘a pure style that’s astonishingly affordable.’

Awarded 97+ points by Oz Clarke who described the 2018 Chardonnay: ‘Up there with the best Chardonnays, I have tasted from Argentina. The vineyards are on the coast just south of Buenos Aires – an experiment, a risk, a dream – and it works; this beauty swirls with oatmeal, hazelnut, soft white apple flesh, peach and honey. It’s scented with apple blossom and honeysuckle and its lemon acidity is as subtle as the cotton that threads through a silken bedsheet.’

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2018-swartland-rouge-kloof-street/">2020 Swartland Rouge, Kloof Street</a> Red Wine

    2020 Swartland Rouge, Kloof Street

    £1675

Produced by Chris and Andrea Mullineux, the Kloof Street wines represent balance, freshness and superb value. They act as the perfect starting point for discovering Swartland’s wines. It is immediately evident in the glass that as much care goes into these wines as Mullineux’s Single Terroir Syrahs and Chenin Blancs.

The spicy perfumed nose has undertones of dark fruits. Each variety in the blend adds balance to the wine. Tinta Barocca brings tannin, Cinsault brings perfume, Carignan brings freshness, Grenache brings fruit character, and the Syrah ties it all together.

A blend of eight vineyard parcels, this wine is made from sustainably farmed fruit sourced from different parts of the Swartland. The vines are aged between 12 – 40 years. Two parcels of Syrah and one of Cinsault come from the stony shale and schist-based soils of Kasteelberg, which retain heat well and aid in the ripening of bold fruit. One parcel of dry-land, bush vine Syrah, one of Carignan, one of Grenache and a single parcel of gnarly, old, dry-farmed Tinta Barocca bush vines are all grown on the decomposed granite soil of the Paardeberg. This soil promotes the production of complex wines with lifted acidity. The final parcel is Mourvèdre grown on the rolling, iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2020-1753-viognier-chateau-de-campuget/">2023 ‘1753’ Viognier, Château de Campuget</a> White Wine

2023 ‘1753’ Viognier, Château de Campuget

    £1695

An elegant Viognier with hints of nectarine, ginger and honeysuckle. Precise, crisp and balanced on the palate, with a roundness of generously structured fruit and a long, elegant finish.

The vineyard that this Viognier comes from is situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel, in the heart of the ‘Appellation d’Origine Protégée’ of the Costières de Nîmes. The average age of the vines is about 25 years. The main characteristic of the vineyard is the soil, which is formed of ‘gress’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. These pebbles allow the vines to grow in the best possible conditions and due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The vines also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, which brings the grapes to perfect maturity and allows them to be picked at maximum phenolic maturity which assured elegance in the resulting wine.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2019-the-money-spider-organic-roussanne-darenberg/">2021 The Money Spider Organic Roussanne, d’Arenberg</a> Wine Republic Heros White Wine

2021 The Money Spider Organic Roussanne, d’Arenberg

    £1695

There’s a real ‘standing in a field during spring’ vibe to this wine. Lots of golden sunshine, cut-straw, and yellow peach flavours. It’s round, and generous, with substantial palate weight and mouthfeel. It’s rich, toasty, and opulent.

The name of the wine originates from the fact that the first crop of Roussanne from the 2000 vintage was covered in tiny ‘Money Spiders’. Popular belief is that kindness to these creatures will bring good luck, so Chester refrained from sending the spiders to their death. By the next year, the Money Spiders had relocated, making the first release of this wine in 2001.

2021 ‘1753’ Syrah Vermentino Rosé, Château de Campuget

    £1695

A classic rose petal colour, this elegant, dry rosé shows aromatic notes of grapefruit and delicate citrus hints, through to a refreshing palate of red berry fruits with a lifted finish.

The terroir in the vineyard is characterised by the ‘Galets’ or large pebbles that are remnants of Alpine glaciers that have been smoothed over millennia by the Rhône. These pebbles absorb and store the heat from the sun during the day and release it at night, encouraging the vines to ripen the grapes. The vines here have established a deep root system enabling them to draw the mineral elements they need to grow and providing a complexity of flavour to the resulting wine. The Mediterranean sunshine is vital to the maturation and phenolic ripeness of the grapes.

2018 Altesse ‘Madame de M…’, Domaine Vendange

    £1695

With a brioche opening, complex aromas of floral blossom, spice and flinty notes surround a core of pear and citrus. Intense and precise, the textured palate is lively, balanced and underpinned by elegant mineral notes. Drink now to 2025.

The Domaine de Vendange estate extends over 10 hectares, planted on south-facing slopes where the local Savoie grape varieties fully express their typicity. The 25- year old Jacquère vines yield 65 hectolitres per hectare. The soils are formed of glacial moraine; they are very young limestone soils made up of limestone scree, with layers of silty clay, which produce elegant, fresh wines. The vines are planted at 400 metres’ elevation, yet despite the altitude and mountainous location, the summers are surprisingly hot. This distinctive microclimate encourages the grapes to reach optimum maturity with concentrated juice, balanced by mountain-cool freshness. The vines are cultivated using integrated agriculture practices, maintaining the greatest respect for terroir and tradition. The focus is on green harvesting with pruning, debudding, trellising and leaf stripping. All grapes are hand-harvested. In 2021, the domain moved into conversion to organic status.
