  • 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Clos de la Bidaude’, Domaine Robert GibourgRed Wine

2017 Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Clos de la Bidaude’, Domaine Robert Gibourg

    £4450

Clos de la Bidaude is a ‘Monopole’ single vineyard owned by Domaine Robert Gibourg in Morey-Saint-Denis, which borders the Grand Cru appellation of Clos des Lambrays. This 2017 vintage is well textured and quite weighty with concentrated aromas of red and black fruits underpinned by hints of cloves. Beautifully balanced tannins on the palate are enveloped by a lovely freshness of Pinot Noir fruit.

Domaine Robert Gibourg cultivates his vines according to “la lutte raisonnée”, using sustainable agricultural methods and reducing the amount of chemicals in order to respect the land and its environment. Pesticides and herbicides are not used in the cultivation of the vines; instead, a regular tilling is performed to remove weeds and maintain the health of the soil. The soils are made up of chalk and clay and impart finesse and elegance to the wines. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum maturity.

  • 2018 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roi’, Chateau de SantenayRed Wine

2018 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roi’, Chateau de Santenay

    £5150

Taken from the Clos Du Roi 1er Cru vineyard, this Pinot demonstrates the best of the Beaune sub-region and is known for its wonderful ageing potential.

The 2018 Chateau de Santenay Beaune 1er Cru “Clos du Roi” is very dark deep garnet in the glass. The nose is concentrated with ripe black fruit married with delicate oak characters. The palate is full-bodied with elegant and big tannins. The freshness of the fruit and complexity make this a remarkable wine with great finesse and style.

This Premier Cru vineyard takes its name from the fact that it was claimed by King Louis XI during the 15th Century following the death of Charles the Bold, the last Duke of Burgundy. The soils here are free-draining with a mixture of clay and sand, and a subsoil that has a high limestone content. This forces the roots of the vine to dig deep to find the vital nutrients and water they need, which in turn results in a high concentration of flavour within the fruit.
