  2018 Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas , Chivite Family Estates

  Chivite Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas is a barrel-fermented white wine made by the Chivite winery with the Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Blanca grape varieties.  This unique wine is the result of various rosé winemaking experiment, during which they discovered a melting pot of aromas, textures and hues, some colourless, authentic Blanc de Noirs, with captivating and exotic aromas. This gave them the idea of creating a new white wine made solely from the Garnacha Tinta. The blend needed rounding out and something that would give the wine a bit more complexity on the nose so that came with the addition of a proportion of Garnacha Blanca fermented in barrel.

  The result is a wine that bears all the hallmarks of the Chivite wines and is therefore typical of the Legardeta estate, with an emphasis on acidic tension that brings freshness and balances the smoothness with a complex and nuanced bouquet.

  Tropical aromas of passionfruit, guava and blackcurrant combine with nettle and subtle chalky mineral notes. The rich, full palate with grapefruit and blackcurrant leaf is enveloped in green notes of nettle and pepper and a delicate sea salt character, through to a long, mineral finish.

  The grapes was sourced from a selection of vineyards located predominantly in the lower Wairau sub-region. This is what Saint Clair regards as Marlborough’s best subregion for Sauvignon Blanc, producing wines with heightened expression. These vineyards sit on alluvial, silt soils. Each vineyard block was harvested when it reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

  The Grüner Veltliner vines are grown in the Wachau, the most prestigious viticultural area in Austria. The vineyard is located on the steep terraces of the Spitzer Valley with proximity to the Danube. The temperature variation in the valley, with warmer days and cooler nights, has a significant role to play in the ripening of the berries. The vines are grown in Gneiss soils, made up of schist and granite with a high mineral content.

  This stunning Sauvignon blanc is made by one of the top New Zealand’s top wine makers, Ben Glover and is an homage to his late sister, Kate.

  2022 Txakoli, Hiruzta

  Hiruzta (pronounced “Ir-rosster”) is an estate winery in the northern Basque region of Spain.  The grapes are grown in their 11-hectare single vineyard, located at the foothills of Jaizkibel mountain, just 500 metres away from the Cantabric Sea. The salty sea breeze influence is one of the main characteristics that can be appreciated in the Hiruzta Txakoli (pronounced “Chaccoli”).  The aim of the winery is to restore the tradition of Txakoli production in Hondarribia after all the grape that Txakoli is made from is called Hondarrabi Zuri, named after the town the Hiruzta is based.

  The wine has rich aromas of crisp apples, pear, grapefruit and tropical pineapple are enhanced by a subtle, natural effervescence. Balanced and fresh on the palate, it has the slight characteristic of a pearl wine with well-integrated crisp acidity, hints of citrus and tropical fruits and a long aromatic finish.
