Description
The Chalmers family are well ahead of the curve when it comes to the recent trend of cultivating Mediterranean varietals in Australia. Not only were they were responsible for importing a selection of around 70 clones and varieties that were introduced to Australia in 2000, but they also established the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in 1999. They continue to experiment using their nursery block at Merbein to produce super small-batch, handmade wine project #bucketwine which is exploring grassroots winemaking with no tools, additions or filtration. However, this family-run business has also found time to produce a range of wild ferment Italian varietals under their own name ‘Chalmers’. These wines are the result of years of experimentation and refinement, from terroir to barrique, Australian wines which proudly display their continental heritage.
