2014 Boom Boom Shiraz, Charles Smith

2014 Boom Boom Shiraz, Charles Smith

The 2014 Boom Boom Shiraz by Charles Smith is a big, rich, concentrated, and totally satisfying red wine blend. It offers balanced complexity, fine tannins, and a pleasing mouthfeel. It has explosive aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, white pepper, and savoury herbs. The Boom Boom! Syrah exploded on the wine industry in 2007 and has been one of Washington State’s signature wines ever since. It’s a tribute to Charles’ first love lost—a woman nicknamed “Boom Boom” O’Brien—and it’s one of the biggest and boldest Syrahs of all time.

Notable Awards

Charles Smith Wines was recognized by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the “Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years,” and as “Winery of the Year” in their annual buying guide. In 2009, Food & Wine magazine awarded Charles “Winemaker of the Year”.

Whats in the bottle

Description

Charles Smith Wines was established in 2006. Charles Smith, a former rock band manager, is the maker of these wines. Until 1996 the wine was made and bottled by Charles Smith. However, in that year he sold the winery to Constellation Brands for one hundred and twenty million dollars which averaged over twenty million for each of the five wines made by Charles Smith at that time. The winery is known for its purest grapes and the purest process, with one rule – no compromises. The entire portfolio consists of 39 wines sold in all 50 states and 20 countries, making Charles Smith Wines the largest winemaker-owned winery in Washington, with over 750,000 cases sold each year.

Charles Smith’s reds undergo long macerations of 30 days or more on the skins, with no racking after malolactic fermentation is finished. The Syrah is co-fermented with the Viognier in oak barrels. The wine is allowed to ferment in the barrels on the lees after it has spent twenty-five days on the skins.
