Founded in 1998 by pioneering winemaker Grant Taylor, Valli Vineyards is a boutique winery renowned for crafting single-vineyard wines that express the distinct sub-regional characteristics of Central Otago and the Waitaki Valley. Taylor, a native of Otago, has been instrumental in shaping the region’s winemaking landscape since 1993, bringing with him a wealth of experience from vintages in the USA, Australia, and France.
Valli’s philosophy centres on producing wines with honesty, integrity, and a true sense of place. The winery focuses on Pinot Noir, sourcing grapes from four unique sub-regions: Gibbston, Bannockburn, Bendigo, and Waitaki Valley. Each vineyard is carefully managed to highlight the nuances of its terroir, resulting in wines that are both expressive and reflective of their origin.
Since 2015, winemaker Jen Parr, originally from Oregon, has partnered with Taylor, bringing her international experience and a shared commitment to excellence. Their collaborative efforts have garnered numerous accolades, including Parr being named New Zealand Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller in 2020.
