Champagne Gaston ChiquetChampagne Tradition Brut 1er Cru, Champagne Gaston Chiquet
Champagne, France
Champagne Gaston Chiquet is one of finest grower estates in the Grand Vallée de la Marne. Chiquet’s wines combine a generous depth of fruit with a pronounced character of place — if you want to know what the wines of the Grande Vallée should feel like, these are an excellent introduction.
Aromas of ripe pear, peach and honey, with a subtle strawberry nuance in the background. The palate offers very good intensity, with fresh orchard fruit and spicecake flavors picking up weight with air. Closes on a vibrant, stony note, with very good clarity and length.

90 points, Jeb Dunnuck
“A golden yellow hue, the NV Champagne Tradition Premier Cru Brut is packed with yeasty aromas of fresh bread dough, golden peach, chamomile, and ginger. A youthful and fluffy mousse fills the palate, and the wine leans toward a full-bodied style, revealing a rich texture as the mousse settles down, with a well-balanced and broad-shouldered mid-palate and finish.”
92 points, Wine Spectator
“A vivacious Champagne, showing the balance to recommend this as an aperitif but the focus to pair with food. Well-cut acidity is integrated with the refined mousse and notes of ripe black cherry and blackberry paste, Meyer lemon peel, biscuit and white blossoms. The finish is lingering and mineral-driven. Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged February 2024. Drink now.”

Description
Champagne Gaston Chiquet has been passed down through eight generations since 1746, when Nicolas Chiquet planted his first vines. It was brothers Fernand and Gaston who, in 1919, made the bold decision to keep their grapes and producer their own wine. Since 2003, this property has been in the very capable hands of brothers Antoine and Nicolas Chiquet. Together with Marion (Antoine’s daughter) they work 23 hectares of vineyards in Dizy, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Hautvillers. They cultivate Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Meunier (30%) and Pinot Noir (20%). Committed to protecting their land for future generations, they have both the Champagne Sustainable Viticulture and High Environmental Value certification, which they were awarded in 2015.
