  The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea and are surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain-freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which balance the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness. The vineyard is certified organic.

  2021 ‘Les Glacières’ Côtes du Roussillon, Domaine Gardiés

  A fresh, fragrant blend, with fragrant lemony fruit and herbal notes from the garrigue. Beautifully balanced with rounded fruit underpinned by lovely mineral freshness.

  The Domaine Gardiés vineyards nestle in the foothills of Corbières, where the clay- limestone of the scrubland gives this a part of the Domaine’s soil its characteristic finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, the hot, arid summers encouraging the vines to struggle and send their roots deep into the soil in search of nutrients, resulting in complex wines. The low-yielding vines produce 30 hl/ha. The region is characterised by the eight different types of wind blow across the wine growing area and, one day out of three, the mighty Tramontane, a dominating northerly wind, sweeps through the region. These drying winds help keep vineyards in a healthy condition, reducing the need for pest control or other human intervention. Domaine Gardiés is certified organic, the vines are hand-harvested and biodiversity in the vineyard is encouraged.

  2019 Domaine Gauby`Calcinaires` Rouge IGP Cotes Catalanes

  Domaine Gauby is located close to the small town of Calce in the Roussillon. Now run by Gérard Gauby, his wife Ghislaine and their son Lionel, who is responsible for the winemaking, the domaine has gained a reputation for making wines of exemplary freshness in a hot climate.

  This 2019 `Calcinaires` Rouge is bright with red and black fruit, notes of wild rosemary and thyme mingle with spice and dark cherry fruit on the palate, balanced by bright acidity and ripe supple tannins.  Worth decanting beforehand to allow to fully open and express.

  2020 Domaine Gauby`Calcinaires` Blanc IGP Cotes Catalanes

  Domaine Gauby is located close to the small town of Calce in the Roussillon. Now run by Gérard Gauby, his wife Ghislaine and their son Lionel, who is responsible for the winemaking, the domaine has gained a reputation for making wines of exemplary freshness in a hot climate.

  This 2020 `Calcinaires` Blanc has a fresh nose with delicate aromas of white flowers and notes of peach and quince. The palate is expressive with layers of citrus and stone fruit. A bright acidity is underpinned by a long mineral finish.

  This blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Macabeu, and 10% Vermentino is sourced from a mixture of old and young vines planted on clay loam and limestone. The Chardonnay vines are average 45 years old and the Macabeu 80 years old, which gives the grapes great concentration. The Roussillon has incredibly diverse soils which, combined with the multiple aspects from the rolling hills, has given Gérard Gauby the freedom to experiment and maximise the potential of each grape variety.

The soils are made up of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain, along with black schist; the latter imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by freshness and notes of the garrigue.   The Syrah vines are grown in the High Agly Valley, where the vineyard is situated at 325 metres. At this elevation the vines benefit from the coastal breezes sweeping up from the Mediterranean Sea, which help to temper the scorching summer heat. The mountainous foothills of the Pyrenees provide good diurnal temperature differences, with cooler evenings offering the vines gentle respite from the heat, resulting in balanced fruit with natural freshness. The soils are made up of a mosaic of schist soils, which date back to the Cretaceous period. The schistous marl produces shallow black soils, forcing vines to put down deep roots in search of water and nutrients. The vineyard is certified organic.
