Located in the heart of the Loire Valley’s Pouilly-Fumé appellation, Domaine A. Cailbourdin has long been recognised for its dedication to crafting pure, terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc. Founded in 1980 by Alain Cailbourdin, the estate spans some of the region’s finest vineyard sites, including the flint-rich slopes of Saint-Andelain. With a philosophy rooted in low yields, sustainable farming, and minimal intervention, Domaine Cailbourdin consistently produces wines of elegance, complexity, and an authentic sense of place.
The 2019 Triptyque Silex is a standout cuvée, named for the silex (flint) soils that lend the wine its hallmark minerality and finesse. Sourced from old vines (up to 90 years of age) on clay and flint soils, this wine showcases the depth and precision that only mature vines and exceptional terroir can offer. A portion is aged in large oak barrels (300–600l), enhancing texture and complexity without overshadowing the varietal character.
In the glass, the 2019 Triptyque reveals an aromatic bouquet of grapefruit zest, white peach, crushed stone, and fresh herbs, with subtle flinty nuances that nod to its silex origins. The palate is layered and structured, offering a beautiful tension between vibrant acidity and textural depth. Notes of citrus, green apple, and wet stone unfold with precision, leading to a long, clean, and mineral-driven finish.
Elegant yet powerful, this is a serious Sauvignon Blanc that rewards both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
