The grapes for the Piekenierskloof Grenache are handpicked, destemmed and crushed first thing the next morning to retain freshness. The fruit enjoys a cold soak for three days to aid extraction and is then partially fermented in old oak barrels for 10 months. Ripe cherry and wild strawberry on the nose and palate. This wine is bright and round and beautifully knitted with a fine minerality to the finish.

2020 `Wanderer’s Heart` Cape Red Blend, Thorne & Daughters
£2395Add to BasketThis wine from Thorne & Daughters is an intense and complex red blend from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah carefully sourced from prime vineyard sites across the Western Cape. On the nose, well-defined aromas of red cherry and violet combine with spicy notes of cinnamon and cardamom to burst from the glass. On the palate, the wine is poised with supple tannins and juicy acidity, leading to a multi-layered and moreish finish.
The ‘Wanderer’s Heart’ is made from a blend of grapes from carefully selected growers across the Western Cape. The Grenache is sourced from dry-farmed vineyards on the Paardeberg Mountain in the Swartland which has a combination of clay and granite soils. The Mourvèdre is the fruit of 12-year-old vines planted on clay/gravel soils in Bot River. The Syrah also comes from Bot River from 12-year-old vines planted on shale. The vineyards are all farmed sustainably and harvesting is done by hand.

2019 Grenache, Illimis
£2995Add to BasketWe love Grenache at Wine Republic and were very excited when Illimis announced they had produced one! Winemaker and owner of Illimis, Lucinda Heyns has crafted an exceptional example of Grenache from a bush vine vineyard located in Wellington which is just north of Paarl in the Western Cape. The vineyard has shale soil with pockets of schist that Grenache loves and it delivers a wine with fine, chalky tannins, beautiful aromas of wild strawberries, lavender and rose petals. The palate is silky and supple with flavours of cherry, minerals, dried berries and wild herbs that lead into a long finish.
