    2021 Grenache Blanc, Olifantsberg

    £2400

A unique style of Grenache Blanc which shows delicacy and finesse. Subtle aromas of lime blossom combine with green herbal notes, white peach and quince through to a beautifully balanced and richly textured palate with a saline hint on the finish.

The vineyards are located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where they endure large diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Cold winters, coupled with the summer winds, ensure the slow ripening of the grapes, which helps to maintain healthy vines and contributes freshness and elegance to the wines.  The vineyards are farmed in a sustainable manner, helping to maintain the biodiversity within the vineyards and soils

    2016 Chenin/Verdelho, Momento

    £2450
Marelise Niemann, winemaker and owner of Momento thinks that Chenin Blanc without Verdelho is like dancing without music.
Verdelho adds the zing and zest to the blend, giving it that extra twist of freshness, energy and rhythm. The Chenin blanc grapes come from 40-year-old, dry land farmed bush vines in the Swartland, and a 36-year-old vineyard from Bot River, called ‘Langbene’ (Long legs) – named after the unique and extremely long trunks of the vines.  The Verdelho grapes come from Voor-Paardeberg, grown in decomposed granite and clay as well as a vineyard in Bot River grown in Bokkeveld shale. The decomposed granite soils produce a rich, generous and broader palate, while the shale and clay soil from Bot River produces an austere, focused, and texture driven wine. A combination of these two regions, together with the Verdelho that adds the freshness, combine to create a well-balanced wine, both rich and generous and elegant and well-poised, with a mineral focus and bright acidity.

A nose of white peach, lemon rind and jasmine with green melon, green apple and a crystalline, wet stone minerality adding freshness and focus. Crunchy, puckering acidity supports a full-bodied, mouth-coating palate with brioche and tart lemon curd leading to a long, pithy finish.

    2024 Goldmine White, Boekenhoutskloof

    £2450

From the makers of the legendary Chocolate Block comes its luminous counterpart, the 2024 Goldmine White, a blend that captures the sunlit soul of South Africa’s vineyards. The nose is both fresh and intricate, offering layers of quince, poached pear, and nectarine, with undertones of bruised apple, chamomile and a whisper of baking spice. The palate glides between vibrancy and depth with ripe stone fruit and citrus framed by a poised structure of oak-aged Semillon, textured Swartland Chenin Blanc, bright Chardonnay and a delicate floral lift from Viognier. The finish is long, seamless, and quietly luxurious resulting in a white wine of poise, purpose and undeniable pedigree.

For when: dinner feels special and the playlist’s just right.
Pairs with: roast chicken with lemon and herbs, creamy shellfish pasta, or a sunset that turns everything gold.
If this wine were a mood, it’d be late-afternoon light through linen curtains, warm, elegant, and unhurried.

Boekenhoutskloof, founded in 1776 and reimagined under the visionary Marc Kent, is one of South Africa’s most acclaimed estates, a name synonymous with craft, consistency, and quiet brilliance. Based in Franschhoek but sourcing fruit from select sites across the Western Cape, Boekenhoutskloof has built its reputation on meticulous blending and an unwavering pursuit of balance.

The Goldmine White continues that legacy: a masterful blend that reflects both the diversity of South African terroir and Boekenhoutskloof’s house philosophy, purity of fruit, elegance of form, and understated complexity. The 2024 vintage embodies the Cape at its most expressive: sun and sea breeze, richness and restraint, woven together into something genuinely golden.

    2023 The Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof

    £2495

The 2023 vintage of The Chocolate Block continues to build on its legacy as one of South Africa’s most iconic and sought-after red blends. Crafted predominantly from Syrah, with carefully selected additions of Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier (blend proportions vary annually), this cult-status wine showcases Boekenhoutskloof’s mastery in balancing innovation and consistency. Only 4,043 barrels were produced, further enhancing its rarity and appeal.

The palate is rich yet polished, delivering layers of dark berry fruit, red liquorice, and cherry compote, underscored by hints of cherry tobacco and exotic spice.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2021-laurens-campher-chenin-blanc-muratie/">2021 Laurens Campher Chenin Blanc, Muratie</a>

2021 Laurens Campher Chenin Blanc, Muratie

    £2595

Laurens Campher was a young German soldier who started farming at Muratie in 1685. This blend is a labour of love, much like Laurens’ love for Ansela van de Caab. Their love was ultimately rewarding, bringing about the birth of their three children, her freedom and the development of a farm that was only officially granted to Campher in 1699 but is still going strong over three centuries later.

This wine is made from meticulously sourced grapes from different sites and slopes. Vineyards vary in age from 10 – 15 years old. The Chenin Blanc is from an old north facing bush vine block with low yields and good fruit purity.

For all its freshness, elegance and focus, the wine’s flavours are complex and intense, ranging from bright lemon, fresh pineapple, apricots and juicy nectarine to more concentrated lime marmalade as well as caramel and cream (from barrel fermentation and 11 months of maturation in mostly older French oak). On the palate the initial impression is floral (heady honeysuckle) finishing with white peaches and apricots, with hints of citrus and a fresh acidity – great persistence promising enjoyment over at least five years.

Swartberg Wingerde is the personal project of acclaimed South African winemaker Rudiger Gretschel, whose career includes roles at Boekenhoutskloof, Krone, and Reyneke Wines. Driven by a passion for sustainability and terroir expression, Gretschel established Swartberg Wingerde in the rugged Piekenierskloof region, renowned for its ancient, dry-farmed bush vines. The Holism range reflects a holistic approach to viticulture and winemaking, emphasising harmony between nature and human craftsmanship. 2019 Chenin Blanc Single Vineyard Block W2, Mulderbosch

    £2695

The 2019 Block W Chenin Blanc is mineral in profile, tightly wound in its youth, slowly maturing overtime to release delicate floral nuances, trimmed with a finely poised line of acidity. Textured with delicate spice from subtle oak ageing, this is a superlative example of Chenin Blanc with a saline finish.

The grapes come from the Single Vineyard Block W, which is located in the Rustenhof area of Stellenbosch. The soil is Cambrian Cape granite, a duplex soil with a marked textural contrast between the coarse sandy topsoil and the clay enriched subsoil. The clay subsoil, offers good water retention properties, which help to nourish the vines during the hot summers. The vineyard is situated just over 2.5 miles from the sea and vines are grown at an elevation of 65 to 70 metres. The sea breezes have a cooling influence on the vines, imbuing the grapes with a natural acidity that beautifully balances the ripe, concentrated flavours the grapes reach in this warm, sunny climate.

Cherries, cassis, roses and cinnamon joined by porcini mushroom and soy make this an alluring and complex nose added to by the ripe phenolic grip and textured coating palate. The balance between lifted and bright primary red fruit notes and that savoury gravitas mimics high-end Pinot Noir. Tightly wound and complex, this wine can age beyond 2025.

This wine is a tribute to all old vine Tinta Baroccas of South Africa, which for a long time have supported some beautifully fine ‘red blends’ but seldom got the recognition they deserve. A blend of three special vineyards all aged over 40 years – of origin Bot River, Stellenbosch and Swartland – grown on a soil combination of Bokkeveld shale, decomposed granite and clay.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2022-isabella-chardonnay-muratie/">2022 Isabella Chardonnay, Muratie</a>

    2022 Isabella Chardonnay, Muratie

    £2950

For current Muratie owners Rijk and Kim Melck, there could be only one name for their Chardonnay, made from the free -run juice of hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed grapes, fermented naturally and then matured in 500l French oak for nine months: the name of their baby daughter, Isabella.

In this fresh and elegant wine with its peach-blossom fragrance, the aim is to evoke those bedtime butterfly kisses of their beautiful baby girl, so the oaking (10 months in this case) is subtle, serving only to spice the stone fruit, melon, and citrus flavours with hints of hazelnuts and vanilla cream. It’s beautifully delicate and understated, with a pure, slightly piquant and lingering ‘mineral’ finish promising great charm well beyond the toddler years.
