    2024 The Wolftrap White, Boekenhoutskloof

    £995

Crafted at the historic Boekenhoutskloof estate, established in 1776 and nestled in the remote reaches of Franschhoek, The Wolftrap White is a vibrant blend that pays tribute to the pioneers who, in the early days, ventured into the Cape wilderness and erected a wolf trap on Boekenhoutskloof. To date, no wolf, either real or mystical, has been seen in the valley!

In the glass, this enticing blend of Viognier (34%), Chenin Blanc (33%), and Grenache Blanc (33%) opens with bright, aromatic notes of peach melba, honeysuckle, and soft citrus blossom. The Viognier leads with rich, ripe stone fruit and florals, while Chenin Blanc adds fresh acidity, lifting the palate and contributing a generous layer of juicy pear and crisp apple. Grenache Blanc completes the trio with soft yellow plum, zesty minerality, and a subtle herbal elegance.  Lush yet balanced, the palate is creamy and textured with a refreshing finish that makes it an ideal partner for various dishes, from seafood and Asian cuisine to poultry and creamy cheeses.

An enticing and invigorating Viognier with aromatic and luscious notes of peach and apricot leading to a vibrant palate full of character and charm.

The Viognier vineyards lie at the heart of Swartland at elevations ranging from 60 to 300 metres above sea level. Nestled in ancient sandstone and shale soils, the vineyards benefit from a unique combination of factors. The region experiences scorching, dry summers followed by cool, wet winters, creating an environment that maximizes the development of flavours and aromas in the grapes. Viognier is very well suited to the dry-land conditions of the Swartland and thrives in the microclimate. The ample sunshine and warm temperatures during the growing season allow the grapes to fully ripen and develop their characteristic fragrant flavours and aromas. The vineyards are sustainably cultivated and the grapes are hand-harvested.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2020-1753-viognier-chateau-de-campuget/">2023 ‘1753’ Viognier, Château de Campuget</a>

2023 ‘1753’ Viognier, Château de Campuget

    £1695

An elegant Viognier with hints of nectarine, ginger and honeysuckle. Precise, crisp and balanced on the palate, with a roundness of generously structured fruit and a long, elegant finish.

The vineyard that this Viognier comes from is situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel, in the heart of the ‘Appellation d’Origine Protégée’ of the Costières de Nîmes. The average age of the vines is about 25 years. The main characteristic of the vineyard is the soil, which is formed of ‘gress’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. These pebbles allow the vines to grow in the best possible conditions and due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The vines also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, which brings the grapes to perfect maturity and allows them to be picked at maximum phenolic maturity which assured elegance in the resulting wine.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2024-viognier-tahbilk/">2024 Viognier, Tahbilk</a>

    2024 Viognier, Tahbilk

    £1695

This delicious Viognier from a dry vintage has an intense and fragrant nose of rose petal and ginger spice leading to a softly textured palate of apricot, peach and honeydew melon characters. All this lifted by a deliciously zesty acidity on the finish.

“Our 2020 Estate whites will be remembered for their lifted fruit intensity, with no better example than this Viognier release. Vivacious ginger, rose petal and citrus blossom aromas are a siren’s song temptation to a textural palate of stone fruit and honeysuckle characters.” – Alister Purbrick ~ Tahbilk Winemaker & CEO

Tahbilk’s relationship with the varietals that call France’s Rhone Valley home can be traced back to our earliest days with a good deal of fortuitous luck leading to the establishment of that connection rather than a grand plan looking ahead over 160 years!
Prior to taking possession of what would become the Tahbilk Estate, one of the directors placed an advertisement in the leading newspapers of Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Sydney for 1,000,000 vines. This resulted in the Tabilk Vineyard Company (as we were known then) receiving around 600,000 vine cuttings, among which was the white ‘Rhone’ varietal, Marsanne.
Marsanne being the solo ‘Rhone’ whites’ flag-waver for the Estate ended in 1990 with the successful planting of Viognier and Roussanne.
Marsanne will always be the undisputed leader of this trio, but there is no doubt that each of these two relatively new Estate ‘Rhone’s’ are showing that they have to have admirably embraced their adopted homeland.

The estate-grown Shiraz vines are 20- years- old and are planted in vineyards in Yarra Glen, Yering and Coldstream. An additional portion comes from Heathcote to help build a lovely chocolate complexity to the fruit.
