This voluptuous fruit-packed wine is sourced from vineyards throughout the Riverina region, with each terroir adding its own characteristic to the final wine.
In the glass it has aromas of gentle vanilla spice and white pepper. Medium bodied with fresh and minty plum fruit flavours.
The Winemakers Reserve Black Shiraz is a multi-award winning wine and an outstanding example of Australian Shiraz with deep colour and aromas of blackberry and plum over toasty coffee and spicy oak. The palate is full-flavoured and intense with rich plum, blueberry and mocha notes. The tannins are ripe and dense imparting great structure and length to the palate.
Predominantly sourced from the vineyards in Padthaway, South Australia, where the soils are sandy loam over clay, formed on old lagoon sediments. These sandy soils lead to poor nutrient and water retention which helps to concentrate the flavours in the fruit. The vines are grown on single wire trellises, ensuring an open canopy. Drip irrigation is used in the vineyards to manage the water supply and reduce evaporation, as water is applied directly above the roots. The fruit was harvested during the cooler nights to retain freshness.

Situated just 45 kilometres east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is a large and diverse cool-climate wine region. Its elevation spectacularly ranges from lows of 50m to heights of 1,250m, due to the influence of the Great Dividing Range. The region is characterised by significant rainfall during winter and spring, which helps to nourish the vines throughout the dry, but cool summers. The estate-grown Shiraz vines are 20- years- old and are planted in vineyards in Yarra Glen, Yering and Coldstream. An additional portion comes from Heathcote to help build a lovely chocolate complexity to the fruit.
The Field Street Shiraz is made from fruit sourced from vineyards that surround the estate’s Oliver Road home. In every sense, this wine is at the heart of the S.C. Pannell label. This wine is stripped back from the artifice of winemaking to express the purity and breadth of McLaren Vale Shiraz. On the nose there is a lovely purity of fruit, aromas of violets are coupled with the beautiful perfume of a punnet full of fresh berries. Tahbilk Shiraz is sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Made using traditional Tahbilk techniques; fermentation takes place in 150 + year old open vats, before maturation in French and American oak for 18 months before bottling. The resultant releases are noted as being fruit-driven wines of much flavour and substance, proven over the years to develop added character when cellared. Varietally expressive with ample plum and blackberry fruits, there is warm earth and spicy savouriness that immediately appeals with a backbone of fine, opulent tannins and a rich, persistent finish.
Tahbilk’s vineyards are grouped along the banks of the Goulburn River, a branch of it which flows through the estate. The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which vary from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.
Frankland Estate is one of Australia’s most renowned and isolated wineries, established in 1988 by Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith. The winery is fully organic, and their Isolation Ridge vineyard is regarded as one of Australia’s iconic vineyard estates.
The Frankland Estate Shiraz 2017 is a sensory journey that indulges the palate with its luxurious flavour. As you pour it into the glass, the room fills with the elevated aromas of liquorice, black cherry, scorched earth, dried meats, smoky cedar, black olives and black pepper. The palate is generously weighted with rich dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits, accompanied by elements of smoked meat, scorched earth, spicy cedar and pepper on the back half, creating a symphony of flavours. This is a savoury medium-bodied Adelaide Hills Shiraz. In the glass, it has a dark red-black colour with a dark red hue. Aromas of liquorice and dark cherries are overlaid by some smoky cedar and dried meats with light pepper end notes. Medium-bodied flavours of dark cherries and liquorice are infused with subtle clove followed by some dried meats and spicy pepper. Fine-grained tannins with an aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, liquorice, clove infusions, dried meats and pepper. Aged in French oak barriques and hogsheads for 17 months.
This 2017 Shiraz comes from a single-vineyard sourced from the Florita vineyard in Watervale. The Shiraz block is planted on a gentle northwest facing slope that takes full advantage of Clare Valley climate.
It is an opulent wine with expressive aromas of rich, bright red fruits that are supported by classic Clare Valley spice. Beautifully structured with fine savoury tannins and terrific length of vibrant fruit on the palate. This is not your typical Clare Valley Shiraz! The opulent nature of the wine could be due to winemaking that saw one-third of the grapes being co-fermented with 15% of whole bunch fruit to impart complexity and an aromatic lift to the wine. The wine then went through malolactic fermentation (a process where tart malic acid in wine converts to softer, creamier lactic acid) before being transferred to oak barrels for 12 months of ageing.
