The aromas are powerful and complex encapsulating a wealth of ripe black cherries, blackberries with subtle hints of white pepper and spice. The rich and harmonious palate delivers soft flavours of plum and cherry notes, underpinned by toasty oak and velvety chocolate. Silky tannins lead to a long, persistent finish.
The Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet has an impenetrable black colour with a vibrant garnet hue. The aromas are powerful and complex with a wealth of fruit ranging from ripe blackcurrant and blackberries with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. The rich and harmonious palate displays abundant flavours of prune, plum jam and mint, underpinned by fine toasty French oak and defined by a soft yet dense tannin profile.
The grapes come from two parcels of fruit within the same vineyard, in the prized Terra Rossa region of Coonawarra. One block is on a slightly more elevated area of the vineyard, which produces more subtle fruit characters. The warm days are moderated by off-shore breezes and the rich red loam over free draining limestone soil is the foundation for the Coonawarra’s justified reputation for producing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
Red WineAnother cracking Malbec from Matias Riccitelli, don’t be fooled by the fun label as this is a stylish, cool-climate Malbec delivering aromas of wild dark fruits, vanilla and chocolate. Complex and rich on the palate, with juicy black fruits, violet and black pepper enveloped in soft ripe tannins through to an opulent finish.
The grapes are grown in two locations: Perdriel and Galtallary. The vineyards at Perdriel are situated at an altitude of 980 metres above sea level, near the banks of the Mendoza River. This proximity to the river provides high levels of water retention in the vines, which are over 80 years old. The region has a continental climate, with cool winters and mild summers, warm days and cooler nights. The soils are sandy silt and rocky, with very good drainage, which also promotes root growth. Irrigation is via the traditional technique of flooding. These attributes give the Malbecs great intensity, notable red and black fruit aromas, minerality and a very gentle structure.
The Galtallary vineyards sit at a higher altitude of 1,500 metres. A continental climate prevails, with cold winters, mild summers and good diurnal temperature differences. The soils are loamy clay and calcareous with a depth of 80cm above a rocky subsoil. This soil has good drainage and here the vineyards are drip irrigated. Hand pruning and a green harvest takes place in both vineyards to ensure the optimum exposure to the sunlight, while concentrating the flavours in the berries.
Red WineWinemaker Oscar Alegre is at the forefront of a revolution in Spain. “Traditional Rioja is actually only 150 years old, driven by French influence at the end of the 19th Century – but Alegre Valgañon are among those championing a return to the much deeper roots of the region, making wine as it was before Phylloxera. Oscar and his wife Eva make gorgeous, sculpted Rioja from old plots of vines in the shadow of the Obarenes Mountains which are some of the highest and coolest in the region, yielding wines that are refined and aromatic. Their vineyard plots are managed meticulously and they favour whole bunch fermentation, long macerations and ageing in large, neutral barrels.
In the glass this 2020 Rioja Tinto is silky smooth with a freshness and lightness of touch to it’s crunchy red, mineral tinged fruits. Garnacha adds a little bit of weight but overall the wine is wonderfully silky and elegant with terroir and fruit shining through rather than oak.
Red WineIn the glass, this wine shows alluring aromas of white pear, elderflower and subtle hints of toasted vanilla and white flowers. The palate is fresh yet creamy with the ripe pear and citrus acidity following through. Well-integrated oak allows for a toasty and lingering finish

Red WineThis wine is all about the purity of Pinot Noir with spicy savoury and bright, juicy red florals and fruits. It is medium-bodied with soft velvety tannins, a mix of tart and sweet cherry fruit with a chocolate touch to the lightly oaked finish and a spicy zestiness to the lingering aftertaste.
The Butcher’s Cart harks back to a time when the Lindner family, founders of the great St Hallett’s estate, were family butchers and horse and cart was the norm to get about. Much has changed in the Barossa since then, but there is the same meticulous care now performed in the jewel-like vineyards and immaculate cellar. This fabulous dark, spicy Shiraz uses grapes from a selection of vineyards, all planted on the red-brown earth, which tends to produce a rich, generous wine. Each parcel is fermented separately, with a pump over six times a day to extract rich flavour and tannins. Ageing for 10 months in 20% new oak puts the finishing touches to this rich, unctuous red.

Red WineAn opulent wine with a depth of concentrated black fruit. The tannins are present but enjoyable as they are polished and integrated. Black fruits on the nose are echoed on the palate with a touch of liquorice and spice through to a long, silky finish. The 2018 summer was very hot and dry in the southern Rhône, which allowed the grapes to reach excellent maturity, resulting in expressive wines with wonderful fruit concentration.
The vineyard is situated in the Rasteau appellation on hillside slopes which offer good drainage and sun exposure. The soil layers are complex due to their various origins. Brown clay, which comprises sediment from the Alps from the miocène period, and grey clay, which is made up of sediment from algae, overlap here at root level imparting extra complexity to the wine. The sunny weather and strong northern wind, known as the Mistral, keep the vines dry and healthy. The vines have an average age of 70 years and are cultivated according to sustainable methods.
Red WineTahbilk Shiraz is sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Made using traditional Tahbilk techniques; fermentation takes place in 150 + year old open vats, before maturation in French and American oak for 18 months before bottling. The resultant releases are noted as being fruit-driven wines of much flavour and substance, proven over the years to develop added character when cellared. Varietally expressive with ample plum and blackberry fruits, there is warm earth and spicy savouriness that immediately appeals with a backbone of fine, opulent tannins and a rich, persistent finish.

The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which vary from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.

The fruit comes from two distinct Pinot Noir vineyards: Danny’s Vineyard and Grava, two of the most northerly plantings in Monterey County. The vineyards nestle up to the Gabilan Mountain Range on the eastern side of the Salinas Valley; approximately 10 miles directly across from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The marine influence of the nearby Monterey Bay and the morning fog which clears for the afternoon sun, results in a cool mesoclimate and a long hang-time for the fruit. The grapes reflect the cool climate character, with complex aromatics and flavours and natural balancing acidity.

Defending himself, Kym will insist what he did say was that as good as Barossa Shiraz is, adding Mataro will make it taste even better!
This wine is jam-packed with Barossa Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvedre) flavours….plums, black fruits and warm spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and 5 spices. There’s a touch of mid-palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid-palate. The subtle use of oak allows the rich dark fruit to take centre stage.

This gorgeous Pinot Noir from Larry Cherubino is made with fruit from the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The nose shows graphite and minerals, juicy black cherries with a hint of spicy oak plays a supporting role. The palate is softly textured, fresh and vibrant, the flavours of black cherry and earthy beetroot carried along by a fine acid finish.
Casa Lo Alto Manzán is made from Bobal, a grape that is increasingly attracting the attention of wine consumers. Most people have never heard of Bobal, and yet it is the second most planted red grape variety in Spain, second only to Tempranillo! Traditionally used in bulk wine production it is no finding it feet as a standalone wine and as the muse of exceptional winemakers such as Casa Lo Alto’s Valencian winemaker Víctor Marqués. Using organic, biodynamic and sustainable principles he has crafted this stunning Bobal from three vineyards planted between 1940 and 1965.
Casa Lo Alto Manzán 2017 is a fluid red wine with light herbaceous aromas and Incisive red fruit. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity, with medium acidity and mouthwatering dry tannins. This really is such a pure and joyful wine and deserves your attention!
Interesting facts: The vines are planted bush-style in order to save water and protect them from over-exposure to the sun. In the soil, which is calcareous clayey and poor in organic matter, the use of chemical products is avoided and biodynamic preparations are used. In the winery, the grapes are destemmed but not pressed. Once they arrive, they undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. After pressing the juice is then decanted into barrels to rest on its lees for approximately 10 months.
