Verdeca is a relatively rare white-wine grape variety from southern Italy and is known for being excellent with seafood dishes. This 2022 Verdeca ‘Talo’ from San Marzano is quite delightful, fresh and unoaked. It has rich aromatics of white flowers, crisp green apple and a hint of honey. Full-flavoured, with a creamy texture and a thirst-quenching finish.

Talo is the surname of one of the winegrowers that have supplied San Marzano for many years. San Marzano recognises the contribution their producers make, with whom they work closely to achieve the best from their land. The outstanding quality of these wines could not be created without them. The vineyard is located in Salento, Puglia at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The soft soil layer is clayey and quite thin, with a good presence of rocks, making it an ideal growing location for vines.

The fusion of time-honoured tradition, passion and contemporary techniques, enables San Marzano to produce wines with distinctive varietal and regional characteristics while reflecting the local terroir. The vineyard is located at approximately 100 metres above sea level and benefits from great diurnal temperature variation.
Fermentation took place in French oak barrels. Following this, the wine was matured on its fine lees in barriques for a period of four months, with weekly lees stirring which imparted texture and complexity. -

£2595Add to BasketA generous blend of equal parts Negroamaro & Primitivo, the powerhouse grapes of Puglia. This beauty is a fleshy wine with dark berried fruit layered with chocolate and hints of spice. Smooth with great purity of fruit through to a long sustained finish. Quite delicious.
The vineyard is located in Salento, Puglia, where the vines are grown at an altitude of approximately 100 metres above sea level. The temperatures are relatively high over the summer, which encourages the berries to ripen evenly. The soil is predominantly clay with some rocks, which help drainage. The vines are old, gnarly bush vines that are over 50 years old and are planted at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare. The Primitivo is grown in the highly reputed area of Manduria, locally regarded as the best in Puglia. The harvest takes place in September when the grapes are slightly overripe.
