  • 2021 Crozes Hermitage’Inspiration’, Domaine de la Ville RougeRed Wine

2021 Crozes Hermitage’Inspiration’, Domaine de la Ville Rouge

    £2150

Domaine la Ville Rouge cultivates its vineyard organically; the environment is respected and biodiversity is encouraged.  This is surely one of the reasons that this 2017 Crozes-Hermitage is such an elegant, sumptuous and pure expression of Syrah. It is almost black in colour, offering intense aromas of red fruits with savoury hints of black olives. Spicy peppery notes come through on the silky palate.

The vineyard is undergoing conversion to biodynamic status, a philosophy that recognises the connection between all living things, and utilises lunar cycles and earth rhythms to dictate viticultural timings.

  • 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Clos de la Bidaude’, Domaine Robert GibourgRed Wine

2017 Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Clos de la Bidaude’, Domaine Robert Gibourg

    £4450

Clos de la Bidaude is a ‘Monopole’ single vineyard owned by Domaine Robert Gibourg in Morey-Saint-Denis, which borders the Grand Cru appellation of Clos des Lambrays. This 2017 vintage is well textured and quite weighty with concentrated aromas of red and black fruits underpinned by hints of cloves. Beautifully balanced tannins on the palate are enveloped by a lovely freshness of Pinot Noir fruit.

Domaine Robert Gibourg cultivates his vines according to “la lutte raisonnée”, using sustainable agricultural methods and reducing the amount of chemicals in order to respect the land and its environment. Pesticides and herbicides are not used in the cultivation of the vines; instead, a regular tilling is performed to remove weeds and maintain the health of the soil. The soils are made up of chalk and clay and impart finesse and elegance to the wines. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum maturity.

  • 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Cuvée Barberini’, Domaine de la Solitude *Magnum*Red Wine

2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Cuvée Barberini’, Domaine de la Solitude *Magnum*

    £11000

Domaine de la Solitude’s wines are renowned for their characteristic elegance whilst expressing the true origins of their terroir.

The Cuvée Barberini is a tribute to the founding fathers of the Estate and is made only in the best years from the best parcels of old vines of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.   This Domaine has one of the best terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its abundance of rounded quartzite stones, known as “Galet Roulés” terroir.  These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity. The grapes are manually harvested, once each variety has reached phenological ripeness.    2017 is classic Rhône vintage for reds and this wine is no exception.   Well textured, ripe, full-bodied – delivering rich black fruits, mocha expresso and a subtle hint of smoke. Smooth on the palate with integrated tannins and a lingering finish, this is a traditional and elegant Châteauneuf.
