  2021 Estate Chardonnay Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, Talbott

  Talbott Vineyards is defined by its iconic Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, where the conditions are ideal for exceptional, cool-climate Chardonnay.  Located in the northern area of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA in Monterey County, it has been designated one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards by Wine Enthusiast in 2016, for its ability to produce exceptional wines year after year. The vines were first planted in 1972 at an elevation of 168 metres and cover 228 hectares. Due to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean and the east-to-northeasterly exposure, cooling fog and frequent ocean breezes temper the warm sunshine, giving Sleepy Hollow one of the longest growing seasons in California and allowing each grape to develop concentrated flavours.

  A bright, elegant Chardonnay, with aromas of Pink Lady apple, juicy pineapple, pear and caramelised brown sugar. Unctuous and opulent on the palate, with refreshing acidity offering beautiful balance to the ripe tropical fruit.

  2021 Old Vines Semillon From Patagonia, Matias Riccitelli

  This wine has all the seriousness, subtleness, elegance and nuances that old Semillon is capable of. Complex and elegant aromas of citrus, white flowers and vanilla lead to a perfectly balanced palate, with an elegant finish.

  This Semillon was sourced from forgotten vines that are over 50 years old. These old vineyards are located in Río Negro in Patagonia, at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level on the 39° latitude south. Sunlight exposure is more intense than northern areas, but at this latitude the nights are much colder. This daily diurnal temperature range is excellent for the production of quality grapes; the nightly cooling-off extends the ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity.

  2021 Chardonnay ‘Along The Palms’, Scribe Winery

  Scribe Winery produces vibrant, terroir-driven wines from Sonoma, California. The winery was founded in 2007 on a property that helped pioneer pre-prohibition Sonoma Valley wine-making and is managed by fourth-generation California farmers and brothers, Andrew and Adam Mariani.

  In the glass, this is a fresh, textured and complex Chardonnay with expressive notes of pineapple and orange zest layered with a touch of jicama and sea spray, through to a long, exquisite finish.

  2021 Grunlack Riesling Spatlese, Schloss Johannisberg

  The legendary Schloss Johannisberg is steeped in history. The vineyards were planted on the orders of the Roman Emperor Charlemagne. Planted solely with Riesling grapes in 1720, Schloss Johannisberg was the world’s first Riesling Estate and plays a significant part in wine history. It was here in 1775 that the Spätlese quality was discovered using late-picked grapes suffering from “noble rot”. Following this discovery, in 1787 the estate gave Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese to the wine world.

  The Grunlack Riesling Spätlese is a rich and fragrant Spätlese, with an exotic bouquet of orange peel, pineapple, and lime complemented by ripe, red apple and delicious mineral undertones. The initial sweetness is perfectly balanced by a juicy freshness on the palate and a delicately creamy finish.

  The south-facing vineyard is steep, with a gradient of 45° and climbs from 114 to 181 metres above sea level. The Riesling vines are grown in quartz stone from the Taunus hillsides interspersed with red clay and topped with loam and rich loss, which retains water and the heat of the day. This unique vineyard sees the 50° parallel run directly through the vineyard and the forest on the top of the Taunus hillsides protects the vines from cold winds. The vines produce limited yields and the grapes are carefully harvested by hand. Spätlese is translated as “late harvest”: the grapes are harvested at least seven days after the normal harvest, so they are riper, have higher sugar content and produce wines of greater intensity.

  2021 Wallis Chardonnay, Ten Minutes By Tractor

  Ten Minutes by Tractor needs little introduction, nor does the man in charge – Martin Spedding. A gently-spoken man with a background in finance and IT, in 2002, he finally acknowledged the fact that his true passion lay in wine. Despite his origins in New South Wales, he simply couldn’t get enough of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and would travel down to Victoria to immerse himself in Australia’s heartland of these noble varieties. In 2003 he visited one of his favourite small wineries on Mornington Peninsula and was delighted to discover that it was for sale. Without a moment’s hesitation, he snapped it up, and so began Martin’s journey with Ten Minutes by Tractor.

  Complexity is always the name of the game with this single vineyard ‘Wallis’ Chardonnay -this 2021 iteration is another complete wine. White nectarine, fig and green papaya jump from the glass inviting you to explore this elegant Chardonnay.   The bouquet of this powerful, yet elegant Chardonnay displays fresh pear and lemon/lime characters with underlying hints of roasted cashews and frangipani adding complexity.  The sophisticated palate is medium-bodied with a wonderful purity of fruit, offering pear puree, zesty grapefruit flavours and a quartz-like, almost crystalline, mineral edge to the structure.   Elena Walch is a leading Alto Adige wine estate and this Beyond the Clouds is there flagship white wine. Made from the estates finest grapes and is predominantly Chardonnay from the Castel Ringberg vineyard. The wine is aged in French oak barriques and undergoes partial fermentation.

  In the glass the wine is a brilliant straw yellow colour, characteristic of this iconic white cuvée “Beyond the Clouds.” On the nose it has a complex, beguiling aroma with notes of white flowers and fruit nuances from stone fruit and pineapple, capped by a fine mineral approach. Elegant and multi-layered, the wine presents itself with a discreetly integrated, restrained wood note on the palate: with finesse and power, exciting and with great development potential and a vibrant finish.   Aging potential: 15 – 18 years
