Guerrieri Rizzardi2019 ‘Villa Rizzardi’ Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG, Guerrieri Rizzardi
Veneto, ItalyVintage: 2016
A commanding yet refined expression of Amarone, the 2019 ‘Villa Rizzardi’ Riserva opens with a deep garnet hue, hinting at its richness and aging potential. The nose is opulent and layered, showcasing dried black cherries, figs, and dark plums, underscored by nuances of tobacco leaf, cocoa powder, cedar, and a whisper of sweet baking spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and densely textured, with concentrated dark fruit—blackberry compote, Morello cherry, and raisin—wrapped in firm, velvety tannins. A touch of espresso and dark chocolate lingers on the mid-palate, while savory accents of leather and earth provide depth and complexity. Despite its power, the wine maintains remarkable balance, with a vibrant acidity that lifts the richness and a long, warming finish that echoes with dried herbs and spice.
Pairing Suggestions: Ideal with aged Parmigiano Reggiano, braised beef short ribs, or slow-roasted game.
Drinking Window: Now–2035. Decant for 1–2 hours if enjoying in its youth.

Description
Guerrieri Rizzardi is a renowned winery located in the Veneto region of northern Italy, specifically in the Valpolicella area. The winery has a rich history and is well-known for producing high-quality wines that highlight the traditional and modern winemaking techniques of the region.
Guerrieri Rizzardi’s vineyards are situated in some of the finest wine-growing areas in Veneto, primarily in the Soave and Valpolicella regions. These regions are famous for their volcanic soils, which provide ideal conditions for growing the region’s signature grape varieties. The terroir, combined with the winery’s commitment to sustainable farming practices, contributes to the distinctive characteristics of its wines.
The winery’s vineyards are located at varying altitudes, which helps to create a balance between the ripeness of the fruit and the freshness in the wines. The combination of different climates and soils enhances the complexity of the wines and allows for a broad range of wine styles.
Made from 100% dried grapes, raisined naturally in small boxes in the centuries old drying rooms at the winery for 3-5 months. All grapes are destemmed and crushed before an alcoholic fermentation of one month in stainless steel vats (18-28°C).
Malolactic fermentation in barrel. 12 months in 225 litre oak barrels then 24 months in 25 hl oak barrels followed by several months in tank to harmonise. Bottled on November 22nd 2023 – 6 months bottle refinement.
