White WineA Dowie Doole interpretation of the Classic Australian Chardonnay. Chief Winemaker Chris Thomas has crafted a flavour-packed wine with a bouquet of fresh peaches and pears, a crisp citrus palate and a lively lingering finish.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from select vineyards alongside Australia’s longest river, the Murray. Designed to be drunk now and over the next year, it is a great wine to match to mussels, risotto and any white meats.

Peach and nectarine aromas dominate with hints of nougat and lemon blossom, and a touch of waxy citrus leaf. Plantagenet’s 126 hectares of vineyards have been carved out of the region’s distinctive Marri soils, named after the massive native Marri, or Red Gum, trees that grow there. Fruit for this wine was sourced from two of the estate’s sites, Rocky Horror and Crystal Brook. Located 15km south of Mount Barker, Rocky Horror was planted in 1999 on soils consisting of deep gravel loam over ironstone with, with a north and west-facing aspect. Crystal Brook, established in 1988, lies 4km from Rocky Horror on a fertile mix of gravel loam and sand soils. All vineyard operations are completed with an active focus on sustainability in order to maximise biodiversity.

The tiraged sparkling wine is left to age on yeast lees for 12 months and disgorged on demand — this ensures the wine retains optimum freshness and vitality.

The palate is fresh and lively with clean crisp acidity complementing the vibrant fruity flavours. The palate has very good extension and ends clean and bright. This is a restrained style of Australian Chardonnay.

Fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques. In the glass aromas of nectarine and ripe pear are interwoven with dried honey, light citrusy nougat and spice notes rise. Mid weighted and texturally rounded, the palate features nectarine and grapefruit flavours over a back drop of dried honey, citrus and lightly spiced nougat. Finishes nice and fresh with an elegant medium to long aftertaste.

Brokenwood, along with a large number of Chardonnay producers, are harvesting much earlier than 10 years ago. This is partly due to a lot of vineyards reaching maturity, and therefore having great fruit flavour and concentration at lower sugar levels. Additionally, consumers are demanding more finely structured Chardonnay, meaning lower alcohols and less oak.

Brilliant very pale straw almost water like core with greenish tinged edges. Aromas of white peach and dried honey mix with some biscuity oak notes, cashew and delicate citrusy nougat. Light to mid weight with good focus and a refined feel, the palate is detailed with nectarine and white peach fruits which meld into a back drop of subtle dried honey, nougat, biscuity oak and infusions of gun flint. Good intensity finishing with a burst of fresh acidity. Elegant medium to long aftertaste.

In the glass, this magnificent 2013 vintage Croser is complex, elegant and creamy with a nose redolent of honey and cashew and an alluring citrus lift. The palate shows wild strawberry Pinot characters alongside a more buttery nectarine Chardonnay before a soft yeasty finish buoyed by green apple acidity. 36 months on lees really adds to the complexity of this outstanding wine.
All of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes for Croser are grown in Petaluma’s Piccadilly Valley vineyards at between 400 and 500 metres ASL, on the cool south and west facing slopes of Mount Lofty and Mount Bonython in the coolest viticultural region in South Australia.
A light straw, with bright clarity the Dalrymple Estate Chardonnay 2011 has aromas of initial green and yellow fruit with a spiced lemon and lime peel richness. Lemon confit with a spicy freshness drives through a clean fresh palate complexed with chalked, crushed stone texture. The finish is clean, pure and long.
