2020 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux Superior
£1495Add to BasketChâteau Bellecroix has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800s. It was purchased in the 1970s by the owner of Château Haut Calens, Albert Yung. Albert has since embarked upon a programme of modernising the entire estate, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the winery and cellars. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the clay and gravel soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet. The 35 acres of vines average 25 years of age and yield healthy, richly flavoured grapes. This wine from the superb 2020 vintage is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a silky-textured, medium-bodied Bordeaux with blackcurrants, black cherry, violets and a hint of cedar box. Finely balanced by lively acidity and smooth tannins.

2020 Chateau Mayne Mazerolles

The Château is located in the town of Cars, in the appellation of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard is made up of south-facing plots on a plateau with clay-limestone soils and a terroir known locally as “gruppes”, which is formed of small, white pebbles. The vineyard is cultivated according to traditional and sustainable viticulture practices, with an emphasis on respecting the soil, the environment and the vine. The soil under the vines is scattered with oats or barley to produce a green manure; insecticides are not used. The vineyard is in conversion to organic.

2019 ‘Bull Ant’ Cabernet Merlot, Lake Breeze

The grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. It has an amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. The ageing in oak for 15 months has enhanced the mouth-feel of this wine, which is rich and smooth and offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins.
Best consumed over the next 3-4 years and will drink even more dangerously paired with roast lamb. -
2020 Château de l’Ou ‘I Love L’Ou’, Château de l’Ou

The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea and are surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain-freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which balance the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness. The vineyard is certified organic.

2015 ‘Coleccion’ DO Yecla, Bodega Castano
£1695Add to BasketThe Castaño family owns over 410 hectares of vineyards in the Yecla DO in south-eastern Spain. 80% of these vineyards are planted with the native Monastrell variety. For several generations, Bodegas Castaño has been a pioneer in this region and has come to symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude, resulting in wines of great character and finesse.
The grapes for the 2015 ‘Coleccion’ were harvested from 70-year-old Monastrell vines and 32-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, planted at 750 metres above sea level. Dark and intense in colour, this wine is complex on the nose, with ripe black fruit aromas, notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. Soft on the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet delicate, with marked but elegant sweet tannins, and a long finish.

The Pegões vineyard is located between two Nature Reserves: the Tagus estuary to the Northwest and the Sado on the Southwest. To the east are the Arrabida hills and to the west the Alentejo province’s clays. The unique soil here is named “Pliocenico de Pegões”. It is a sandy soil formed over millions of years by sand transported by the rivers Tagus and Sado. It is this Mediterranean climate and soil combination that creates this unique Pegões terroir.
