  • 2020 Circa 77 Cabernet Sauvignon, XanaduRed Wine

2020 Circa 77 Cabernet Sauvignon, Xanadu

    £1695

Circa 77 wines are Xanadu’s excellent value, everyday drinking wines that are named after the wineries’ inception in 1977.  Circa 77 demonstrates not just the lifestyle and natural beauty of Margaret River, but just how special the combination of our pristine maritime climate and ancient soils are in producing wines of vibrancy and personality.

In the glass, this wine exhibits vibrant, characteristic aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blueberries, and dark plums meshed with hints of dry Mediterranean herbs and subtle spicy, toasty oak. The generous palate is packed full of juicy fruits of the forest, cassis and red currant characters. Medium to full-bodied, the fleshy fruits are supported by moreish, supple and ripe tannins. A balanced wine, with a persistent fruit finish with beautiful regional savoury inflections of bay leaf, black olive and liquorice and subtle oak influences.

  • 2019 Coracle, Harry HartmanRed Wine

    2019 Coracle, Harry Hartman

    £3500

Harry Hartmans’ flagship wine, Coracle is a classic Bordeaux style blend and we are delighted to be among the first to list these fabulous wines in the UK.  Made in tiny quantities these wines are going to be highly sought after very quickly!

Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot from selected Stellenbosch vineyards.

This is a powerhouse of a wine, the 4 grape varieties are united in an intriguing and authoritative wine that casts a net of attractive aromas to reel you in. Its hedonistic charm of plum, mulberry, cassis, and blackberry is underpinned with masculine notes of English leather, cedar, tobacco, truffle, and cured meat.   The palate is delicious and mouth-filling.

This suave Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend is undoubtedly intended to set sail for a long-lived journey and beckons those in search of a focussed and multi-faceted wine. Adorning this solid backbone, Merlot contributes with lively red fruit and a cool note of fennel that resurfaces as the wine develops in the glass. Trailed by hints of graphite and capsicum, Cabernet Franc takes a bow, adding even more defined fruit and finesse. Noticeable florals, rosemary, and intensity stem from Stellenbosch Petit Verdot to complete this flavour journey.

In essence, the name refers to a small traditional boat that symbolises the joint effort of a group of friends who adore Bordeaux-style blends.

  • 2015 Les Aromes de Pavie, Chateau PavieRed Wine

2015 Les Aromes de Pavie, Chateau Pavie

    £8500

Les Aromes de Pavie is the second wine of Château Pavie and is made in the Pavie mould of impact and power – the iron fist around a distinctly rich velvet glove approach.

It’s an excellent quality Saint Emilion Grand Cru and we particularly like and agree with Robert Parkers tasting note: ‘the 2015 Arômes de Pavie reveals a beguiling nose of smoked meats, fragrant earth and sautéed herbs over a core of warm red and black plums, cherry compote and blackberry pie plus a waft of dried lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals very fine and ripe yet wonderfully firm tannins plus a seamless backbone of freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long with wonderful restraint and elegance.’

    Enjoy!

  • 1999 Chateau Haut-Brion Premier Cru ClasseRed Wine

1999 Chateau Haut-Brion Premier Cru Classe

    £47500

The 1999 Château Haut-Brion is intensely aromatic, rich and concentrated. A higher than usual Merlot content (60%) has resulted in a luscious, perfectly honed Haut-Brion with elegant mineral aromas and a unique complexity. Its strength lays in the finish, which is surprisingly long.

We recently (May 22) opened a bottle and were bowled over.   This is a monumental 1st growth from a supposedly unfashionable year, we tasted it over 2 hours and watched it evolve slowly with cascading notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry, caramel and forest floor. Fresh and pure on the palate, with a richness over-laying silky tannins. The finish is extraordinary – lengthy, seductive interwoven with subtle minerality and flavours of cedar and spice. Beautifully pure and generous.
