£2395Add to BasketThe Astrolabe Marlborough Chardonnay is made from grapes grown at Astrolabe Farm Vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley, Wrekin Vineyard in the Southern Valleys and Dashwood Corner in the Awatere Valley.
In the glass, this wine has aromas of ripe melon and dried stone fruits with vanilla and butter notes and a subtle mealiness. The palate has a very elegant texture with stone fruit, vanilla creaminess, pleasing weight and a long, dry and mineral finish. This wine is already drinking well, but it
will continue to evolve, increasing in complexity and roundness over several years. Drink now to 2028. 2019 Pret-a-Blanc, Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown

Careful blending and attention to detail has taken this textural, Alsatian inspired blend to a wonderful place. One for the Riesling lovers, but with a little more breadth, a lusher mouthfeel and spice.

2018 Moppa Springs Grenache-Mataro-Shiraz, Rockford
£4500Add to BasketA stupendous blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz is elegant and restrained with a subtle note of vanilla and pretty floral notes. The Grenache supplies tangy sour cherry to this blend whilst Mataro offers a savoury cocoa note and Shiraz holds it all together with a backbone of fine tannins and a touch of brambly fruit.
Moppa Springs, Ebenezer, and Kalimna, are some of the driest areas in the Barossa. This hard country is cold, wet and frosty during pruning, then hot, dry and dusty during harvest. These are the kind of tough conditions that ensure Grenache, Mataro, and Shiraz give their best.
The grapes are hand-forked into Rockford’s famed 1880’s Bagshaw de-stemmer, open-fermented and then gently basket pressed. All of the components for Moppa Springs are aged separately in a combination of seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and large vats to allow the tannins to soften and colours and flavours to consolidate.

2018 Rod and Spur Shiraz-Cabernet, Rockford
£5200Add to BasketThis incredible blend of Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon is a uniquely Australian blend that pays homage to the great Aussie wines of yesteryear. With plenty of sweet spice and brambly black fruit comes a concentrated blackcurrant and vanilla aroma following on to a rich, full-bodied palate. The flavour is full of crunchy black fruit with soft tannins, refreshing acidity and subtle vanilla sweetness.
The name Rod & Spur acknowledges the contribution of Rockford’s growers who spend the cold Barossa winters hand-pruning their vines in the traditional rod and spur method. This wine is a return to the great Australian reds of the 1950’s and 60’s, when Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon blends dominated the premium market. This very Australian wine is not common in any other region of the world.
Like all Rockford reds, the grapes for this wine go through a 1880’s Bagshaw de-stemmer, are open fermented and then gently basket pressed. All components are aged separately in a combination of seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and large oak casks for two years. This allows the tannins to soften and colours and flavours to consolidate, before being bottled under the highest quality cork.
The 2018 vintage was described by Rockford’s winemaking team as ‘One of those years when things just fell into place. Despite the season being one of the driest in many decades, it lacked any prolonged heat waves or significant rainfall events. The Eden Valley Shiraz components, in particular, were standout in the warm dry conditions. The 2018 wines have striking colours, outstanding structure, richness and mouthfeel.

2022 Earthborn ‘6 Barrels’ Chardonnay, Ataraxia
£5250Add to BasketThe Ataraxia Chardonnay Earthborn Organic – this new organic variation of the highly endowed Chardonnay’s of Ataraxia is truly exceptional! Fermented in 20% new wood, it is taut and tangy, with delicious aromas of mandarin and lemongrass, subtle spices, an impressive structure, stunning depth and exceptional minerality.
This “Vin de Terroir” was made from Ataraxia’s first vintage of organic grapes grown on its own vineyards. He presents a journey of conversion to organic principles that began five years ago. Spontaneous and complete barrel fermentation without additives, followed by maturation in specially selected French oak barrels, sourced exclusively from Burgundian coopers, were part of a gentle and minimalist winemaking approach without interfering with the natural vinification processes.

Red Wine
2016 `Voices of Angels` Shiraz, Charles Melton
£6200Add to BasketThis wine is sourced from the Mount Pleasant vineyard which sits on the boundary of Eden Valley and the Adelaide Hills. Technically, this wine is from the Adelaide Hills, but spiritually the fruit is Eden Valley.
In the glass, it has an almost polished, deep crimson colour with the typical cool site brightness. Quite evident high-quality French oak showing at the moment, but this youthful stage will pass, with the fruit increasing in volume and complexity over the next few years. The wine spent a full 29 months ageing on lees to develop a real roundness and tongue coating glycerol sweetness. The density of structure rather than the sheer size is a commanding feature of this vintage and this wine illustrates that perfectly.
