This Pinot Noir delivers on all levels. The clay-rich soils located in the southern border of the Isabel estate allow for an intensely concentrated Pinot Noir in flavour combined with a firm structured backbone of elegant and sinewy tannins. Layers of red fruit, dried herb and perfumed violet characters with nuances of white pepper make this wine attractive. With age it will gain extra complexity.

2021 Omaka Reserve Pinot Noir, Saint Clair
£2950Add to BasketThe Reserve wines from Saint Clair represent the estate’s pinnacle wines – the best of the best. This 2019 has concentrated flavours of black cherry, blackcurrant, Kalamata olive, and perfumed wildflowers, that lead to an elegant palate with a structure reminiscent of finely powdered cocoa. The finish is long incorporating freshly roasted coffee beans, toasty oak and spice.
Ageing potential: This wine is drinking beautifully now or with careful cellaring will mature into a more complex wine that can be enjoyed for the next 8 to 10 years or beyond.
This vineyard site has been the foundation for some of Saint Clair’s finest wines. This is the vineyard where Saint Clair Family Estate first discovered the fruit to make their flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The Block One site was previously part of the Wairau flood plain and is renowned for its deep, highly fertile, free-draining soils, which have been built up over time and help to produce the intensity of flavour in the resulting wine. The vineyard has a flat profile and is situated approximately three metres above sea level. It is now protected from flooding by a stopbank. Located in a slightly cooler site than the majority of the Marlborough Valley, the vines have a slower annual ripening period. The fruit is carefully monitored during the ripening stage and is harvested during the cooler evenings, at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Champagne & Sparkling Wine, English & Welsh Sparkling Wine, Sparkling
NV ‘Chalklands’ Classic Cuvee, Simpsons Wine Estate
£2995Add to BasketThe epitome of English elegance, this rich golden sparkling wine has enticing aromas of caramelised pear and floral millefeuille, combined with bright citrus flavours, linear precision and impressive length.
The first release of this elegant and luxurious English Sparkling Wine was awarded a Gold Medal and a “Best in Class” title at the 2019 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. The 2018 vintage is equally as exquisite and as just as popular – selling out as soon as we get it!
Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43. They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

2014 Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay, Giant Steps
£3200Add to BasketChardonnays from the Tarraford vineyard are exceptional and the best description I have ever seen writer is by Australian wine writer Mike Bennie, so here it is:
The One That Goes All Minerally. Huge mineral feel, indeed, you paste this into the section under Wine Minerality in an encyclopaedia. All pebbles and talc in perfume, sure, some citrus, citrus blossom, faint bread dough notes, but you’re drawn to the flint and element rocky notes primarily. The palate does the same, flint, wet slate, smooth pebbles rolled around the palate, olive brine, green apple juice and lime comes in too. Feels quite firm despite a sense of juiciness and being dart-shaped and long. Finishes with the faintest kiss of salted nuttiness. Just beautiful. Poised and fine.
95 points, Mike Bennie -

The vineyard sits on the undulating land over the white calcareous soils. These famous chalky soils are finely structured and more porous than other soil types, with the looser structure enabling the absorption of minerals by the vine. The chalky soils not only provide excellent drainage but also impart elegance and finesse to the resulting wine.

2018 South Coast Pinot Noir, Lismore
£3800Add to BasketAn elegant Pinot Noir delivering a complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs. The palate shows beautiful purity with layered red fruits, cranberry, raspberry, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish.
This wine was made from Pinot Noir from 2 regions, 70% of the grapes came from Stanford, Walker Bay and 30% from Elgin, both in the cool climate region Cape South Coast. The vines are all Burgundian, clone 115. The Stanford vineyard is close to the southernmost tip of Africa and is located in one of South Africa’s coolest wine-producing regions. The maritime vineyard enjoys a long ripening season, because of the strong cooling winds that are prevalent in the summer. This microclimate is ideal for creating a long hang time, concentrating the flavours in the berries while retaining natural acidity levels. Elgin is situated at 400 metres above sea level and ripens even later than the coastal vineyard. The vines here, planted in shale and clay soils, produce fleshier fruit, adding weight to the blend.
