Description
The winery was founded by Nicolas Ruinart, inspired by his uncle, Dom Thierry Ruinart, a Benedictine monk who had a vision of the potential for “wine with bubbles” after observing the aristocracy in Paris. Maison Ruinart is renowned for being the first established Champagne house, with a history dating back to 1729. It is located in Reims, in the Champagne region of France, and is known for its unique crayères, or chalk quarries, which are used as cellars for aging their Champagne. These quarries are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provide ideal conditions for aging, with constant temperatures and darkness. Ruinart is particularly known for its Chardonnay-dominated Champagnes, which are expressive and noted for their elegance and finesse. They were one of the first to use the ancient chalk quarries beneath Reims for wine aging, starting in 1877. Maison Ruinart continues to be a symbol of French savoir-vivre and is celebrated for its commitment to quality and tradition in Champagne production.
