  • 2018 South Coast Pinot Noir, LismoreRed Wine

2018 South Coast Pinot Noir, Lismore

    £3800

An elegant Pinot Noir delivering a complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs. The palate shows beautiful purity with layered red fruits, cranberry, raspberry, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish.

This wine was made from Pinot Noir from 2 regions, 70% of the grapes came from Stanford, Walker Bay and 30% from Elgin, both in the cool climate region Cape South Coast. The vines are all Burgundian, clone 115. The Stanford vineyard is close to the southernmost tip of Africa and is located in one of South Africa’s coolest wine-producing regions. The maritime vineyard enjoys a long ripening season, because of the strong cooling winds that are prevalent in the summer. This microclimate is ideal for creating a long hang time, concentrating the flavours in the berries while retaining natural acidity levels. Elgin is situated at 400 metres above sea level and ripens even later than the coastal vineyard. The vines here, planted in shale and clay soils, produce fleshier fruit, adding weight to the blend.

  • 2018 Estate Grown Pinot Noir, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, Talbott Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

2018 Estate Grown Pinot Noir, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, Talbott

    £4250

Talbott Vineyards is defined by its iconic Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, where the conditions are ideal for exceptional, cool-climate Pinot Noir. Located in the northern area of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA in Monterey County, it has been designated one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards by Wine Enthusiast in 2016, for its ability to produce exceptional wines year after year. The vines were first planted in 1972 at an elevation of 168 metres and cover 228 hectares. Due to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean and the east-to-northeasterly exposure, cooling fog and frequent ocean breezes temper the warm sunshine, giving Sleepy Hollow one of the longest growing seasons in California and allowing each grape to develop concentrated flavours.

This Pinot Noir offers a distinct earthiness, minerality with hints of nutmeg and clove mingling with notes of ripe black cherry, raspberry and vanilla bean to deliver a rich, mouth-filling texture through to a complex finish.

  • 2016 Pinot Noir, StargazerRed Wine

    2016 Pinot Noir, Stargazer

    £4500

This is the first Stargazer Pinot Noir to come from the Palisander Vineyard, purchased in February 2016. Located in the Tea Tree sub-region of the Coal River Valley, twenty minutes north-east of Hobart, it was planted with vines in 2002.   It is very aromatic with a lifted nose which is firmly in the red fruits spectrum: think cranberries, red cherries and pomegranate. Light and delicate the 2016 Pinot Noir is all about crunchy red fruits and a creamy, layered texture. The tannins are lacy and delicate. Some more refined, savoury dried herb characters emerge with air.   Delicious and rare only 2880 bottles produced.

Owner and winemaker of Stargazer, Samantha is a former Red Winemaker of the Year, a title won whilst head winemaker at McLaren Vale’s Wirra Wirra Vineyards.   Now bringing her skills to bear on her own project she is undoubtedly going to propel Stargazer onto ever greater heights.

Stargazer pays tribute to Abel Tasman, who as an explorer and navigator, must have spent a fair amount of time gazing towards the heavens. Tasman, a Dutchman under the employ of the United East India Company was the first European to sight Tasmania (on 24 November 1642) and then the South Island of New Zealand, nineteen days later on 13 December.
