Weingut Brundlmayer

2018 Pinot Noir, Weingut Brundlmayer

Niederösterreich, AustriaVintage: 2018

This Blauburgunder was made with the ripest Pinot Noir grapes, especially from the top vineyards Dechant and Käferberg and is an authentic expression of the Niederösterreich wine region of Austria.

In the glass, it opens with a smoky, spicy aroma followed by berries, plums and cherries with a touch of floral tones.  On the palate, it is dry, fresh and bursting with red fruits.  Structured and well-integrated acidity with a youthful grip.  The finish is long with a hint of oak and spice.

Description

Weingut Bründlmayer is one of the star producers of the Kamptal region in Austria and a founding member of the Österreichische Traditionsweingüter. Willi Bründlmayer owns 90 hectares of vineyards on rocky terraces in Langenlois and these are farmed according to organic principles. These vineyards include several Este Lagen, including one of Kamptal’s best vineyards – Zöbinger Heiligenstein. The wines carry organic certification from the 2019 vintage. The winery is run by the Bründlmayer family, Thomas Klinger and Master of Wine Andreas Wickhoff. Together, the Bründlmayer team displays meticulous attention to detail. Careful harvesting and precise selection of grapes, always without botrytis, and minimal handling in the winery results in pure, restrained and mineral wines. The focus is on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from some of the best sites in the Kamptal, and the estate also produces fantastic Sekt and Pinot Noir.

In 2000, Decanter magazine chose Bründlmayer as a member of a group of 50 key people worldwide to change the face of wine within the coming decades. Tim Atkin MW added him to the list of 10 movers and shakers of the “Austrian wine wonder”. Willi is a member of the Académie Internationale du Vin.

A traditional vinification includes one and a half weeks maceration followed by maturation in 2 to 3 years old 300 liters Austrian oak barrels.
