  The 2021 Barossa Grenache is made in a ‘joven’ style – released young and without any oak maturation. The Grenache was vinified through the historic 1888 Gravity Cellar – which is highly regarded for its small batch format and gentle maceration.

  The grapes were sourced from Seppeltsfields iconic bush vine Great Terraced Vineyard in the the Barossa.

  In the glass it is lively, medium crimson with pink hues. Lifted aromas of rosewater and Turkish delight with a strawberry note. Sweet fruited on the palate with a dried herb savoury edge, talcy acidity and plum skin tannins.

  2022 ‘The Raptor’ Pinot Noir, Lake Chalice

  This Lake Chalice Pinot Noir is elegant and aromatic, delivering intense notes of blackberry, plum and cherry fruit with delicate and lifted floral aromas. Beautifully structured, with fine-grained tannins, the flavours are echoed on the smooth, supple palate, flowing through to hints of coffee on the lingering finish.

  The grapes are sourced exclusively from Lake Chalice’s 11-hectare Eyrie Vineyard, which is located in the lower Waihopai Valley. The fruit is a hand-picked selection of clone 115 Pinot Noir. The 15-year-old vines are pruned to two canes, and the yields are carefully monitored, resulting in an intense fruit expression in the grapes. The high clay content in the soil profile is well suited to bringing out the best in the Pinot Noir variety.

  Finca Decero is a world-class wine producer located in the Agrelo sub-appellation of Luján de Cuyo in the northwestern part of the province of Mendoza.  Their famed Remolinos Vineyard derives its name from the little whirlwind spiral formations of soil which form in the afternoon as the gentle wind lifts the dry soil from the paths of the vineyard into swaying ‘dust devils’.  This natural phenomenon draws the attention of our overly protective Lechuza owls in the vineyard who sometimes take flight seemingly to chase them away!

  2018 Decero Malbec characterises the Remolinos Vineyard perfectly displaying intense violet aromas over a core of red fruits with notes of cherries and raspberries. Rich in body and very well balanced with fresh acidity, it shows supple and elegant tannins that benefit from 14 months of maturation in French oak barrels.

  This wine is made from the wonderful Greco grape that is grown on the famous Tufo (volcanic) soils that are believed to lend the wine its perfume and mineral complexity.  This 2020 vintage has a rich and powerfully aromatic nose reminiscent of apricot, peach and tropical melon that leads to a creamy palate, harmoniously balanced with a refreshing minerality.

  The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle hills in Sorbo Serpico, approximately an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius.   In Southern Italy, Aglianico is hailed as the noblest of red varieties. In Australia, it has proven to produce wines of finesse, structure and elegance in the most adverse of climatic conditions. At Chalmers, the Aglianico wines have always been considered top-tier reds within the range. To reflect that the latest planting has been established on the prized, top elevation, rocky site on the ridge of the Mt Camel Range at the Heathcote vineyard which is similar in characteristics to the variety’s native terroir.

  This 2011 Aglianico shows earthy cherry, aromatic spice and delicate petal perfume on the nose. The balanced, savoury palate shows subtle fruitcake spices, tobacco, leather, herbal notes and candied orange rind with a pleasant mouth-watering acidity and the fine, smooth, building tannins you would expect of the variety. An elegant and structured medium weight wine which, although it has already been cellared before release, still has excellent potential for long ageing.

  The Chalmers family’s commitment to innovation and excellence has made them a pivotal force in the Australian wine scene for over 20 years. This is illustrated by the fact that first Nero d’Avola vine was imported by Chalmers in 2001 and that one little vine has evolved into more than 200,000 vines planted all over Australia.

  The grape has really found a synergy with the red soils of Heathcote, particularly in the top block where the Chalmers Nero d’Avola is grown. The combination of the lightness and charry/graphite notes of that site with the cherry/raspberry, tar and hard herb characters of Nero d’Avola is a great match.  Chalmers deliberately go for a crunchy style which gives an enchanting, vibrant and juicy wine.

  2017 Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc, Lismore

  Lismore Estate is based in Greyton within the Overberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa.  It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines.   ‘ I had a farm in Africa….’  The opening line of Karen Blixen’s classic memoir Out Of Africa comes to mind when you hear Samantha’s amazing story.  A native Californian, Berkeley educated, Sam realised her dream and bought a mountain in Africa. She then sold the bottom half to finance vine planting in the top half!

  This 2017 barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc is a full-bodied, elegant and beautifully balanced wine. Floral notes of passionflower, fynbos (natural shrubland), combine with guava, gooseberry and pear on the palate along with an underlying minerality, imparting its signature style. A true expression of this unique terroir and its equally unique winemaker.

  We love barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc at Wine Republic and this beauty is made in an “oxidative” style using old 500-litre barrels for 70% of the fermentation and maturation bringing forward richness, intense fruit and complexity. 30% of the wine is fermented and aged in 1500-litre concrete egg tanks to enhance the rich palate texture and minerality. In both the barrels and the eggs, extended less contact contribute further to the rounder mouthfeel and creaminess of this elegantly textured wine.

  An enchanting wine delivering distinctive aromas of peach and apricot. Crisp, with pure varietal character echoed on the palate, this refreshing wine has an excellent structure and a lively finish. Lovely Riesling expression.

  The grapes come from the Spitz vineyard in Western Wachau. The vines are grown on steep hillside terraces which make up several vineyards in the Spitzer Graben. The vines are planted with a south western orientation. Cooling breezes help to keep the climate temperate. The soils are very sandy and have high heat retention properties. The soil’s composition is the result of weathering of the local rocks and it is dominated by pegmatite and calc-silicate gneisses, which have low water retention and help to impart structure to the resulting wine.

The oak tree-covered hillsides of Cogolin provide the ideal setting for cultivating grapes that yield iconic, pale pink, Provencal rosé wines.

  This shimmering salmon pink rosé offers a delightful expression of Provence’s terroir.   In the glass, it opens with profound scents of strawberries and raspberries, hints of citrus, and herbaceous undertones.   2021 Block 3 Sauvignon Blanc ’43 Degrees’, Saint Clair

  This Sauvignon Blanc is distinctively Marlborough with green notes of gooseberry, nettle and blackcurrant bud. The fresh, vibrant palate layers blackcurrant with tropical passion fruit, white peach and a mineral, slightly salty richness which leads to a long, lingering finish.

  The fruit was sourced from the fertile, deep, free-draining silt-loam soils of the lower Wairau Valley. The rows are planted north-east to south-west at a 43-degree angle rather than the typical north to south. This leads to slightly greener characters in grapes on the south facing side and more tropical characters in grapes on the north-facing side. The resulting wine is multi-dimensional and complex. The site is cooler than some other areas of the valley and hence slower to ripen. The distinguishing flavour is of crushed herbs – which is one often associated with the coastal Awatere region. Careful monitoring during ripening and harvesting in the cool of the evening ensures fruit of maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.
